What The Candy Cane Lane Trailer Reveals About The Movie

Eddie Murphy and his character's family looking in awe at a small Christmas ornament that has come to life in Candy Cane Lane.

After starring in Coming 2 America and Netflix's You People, Candy Cane Lane sees Murphy very much operating within the comedy genre once more, this time with a festive twist. The trailer teases that Murphy's character not only has an obsession with Christmas but is also very competitive, with one clip showing him dismantling his daughter's wall shelf in order to mount a reindeer decoration. Evidently, however, this passion for the holiday season gets taken too far.

The Candy Cane Lane trailer teases that the movie will include some actual holiday magic that begins to creep into Chris' life after a fateful visit to a mysterious Christmas shop called Kringles, which is located beneath an underpass. Despite the shop's abundance of decorations and festive trappings, the woman who runs it, Pepper (Jillian Lane), may have dark intentions. As shown in the trailer, she seems to trick Murphy's character into signing his life away after he wishes for the "best Christmas ever".

Careful not to reveal too much of the chaos that ensues following Chris' signing of the contract, the trailer does tease that the movie won't be afraid to lean into more outlandish elements, including a flying sleigh, choreographed dance numbers, and a Christmas ornament come to life. It remains to be seen how Murphy's upcoming flick will compare to his two recent comedies (which weren't particularly well received), but, at the very least, Candy Cane Lane is looking like especially festive fare suitable for the whole family.
