Per the movie's official synopsis, Horizon: An American Saga will explore a 15-year period of pre- and post-Civil War of expansion into the American West. Nothing has been revealed just yet about Costner's character or any of the supporting characters, but the film boasts an impressive cast. In addition to Costner, the Horizon: An American Saga cast includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Will Patton, Thomas Haden Church, Luke Wilson, Jena Malone, Dale Dickey, Abbey Lee, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Michael Rooker, and Giovanni Ribisi, among others.

While the movie isn't set to release until next year, it's already been confirmed that a sequel is on the way. Audiences won't have long to wait for part two, however, with the trailer post confirming that the first installment will hit theaters in June 2024 with the follow-up then coming in August.

So far, most of the news about Horizon: An American Saga has been regarding how the film's production has affected Costner's commitments to Yellowstone. Costner was reportedly seeking to limit his time filming the Taylor Sheridan show in order to devote his attention to his own project, speaking to the star's passion for the upcoming film. In fact, the conceptual origins of Horizon: An American Saga date back as far as the 1980s, with the film clearly meaning a great deal to the star. Although many questions remain, the first trailer is a promising sign of things to come.
