What To Know About Night Swim

Amélie Hoeferle in Night Swim

The Night Swim trailer reveals the basic plot of Wan and Blum's new horror movie. Russell plays a former Major League baseball player who is forced into early retirement by a degenerative disease and moves into a new home with his wife (played by Condon). Their teenage daughter Izzy is played by Hoeferle, who stars in this fall’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, while their younger son Elliot is played by Warren, who stars in Fear the Walking Dead season 8.

Russell's character is secretly hoping to return to professional baseball against all odds. He purchases the new home and uproots his family because of its shimmering backyard swimming pool, which will provide physical therapy for him but also be fun for the kids. That is, of course, until a dark secret from the home's history unleashes an evil force that drags the family down into an abyss of terror.

Night Swim is based on the 2014 short film of the same name by Bryce McGuire, who returned to write and direct the feature-length version. Following the box office success of M3GAN, which grossed $181 million on a $12 million budget, Wan and Blum set Night Swim as their next collaboration. It was a move that showed tremendous confidence in McGuire, a relatively unknown filmmaker, but with the big-name producers on board, Night Swim is sure to be another hit among horror fans when it releases in theaters on January 5, 2024.
