Summary

  • A fan-created version of Blood Moon Ursaluna combines the terrifying Parasect mushroom infection with the already intimidating Pokémon, resulting in a truly horrifying appearance.
  • The image of the infested Ursaluna showcases the absolute extent of the infestation, with blank eyes and mushrooms sprouting all over its body, indicating a zombified state.
  • The artwork implies a horrifying epidemic spreading through the Pokémon world, as the powerful body of Ursaluna under the mushrooms' control could lead to a wave of infections in the Timeless Woods and beyond.

A new and exceptionally creepy Ursaluna fan creation is a perfect addition to any Pokémon fan’s Halloween. The enormous evolution of Ursaring was first introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but the new Blood Moon variant debuted as part of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC Pokédex and gave the Peat Pokémon a far scarier appearance. Now, however, one fan has vastly strengthened the Pokémon’s fearsome impact with some creative, and terrifying, changes to its design.

Reddit user NavAU has revealed a version of Blood Moon Ursaluna that combines the already intimidating Pokémon with the subtle dread of a Parasect mushroom infection. The image has clearly struck a chord amongst people, with the post gaining over 1.6k upvotes in just a few days.

The lore surrounding Paras is terrifying, particularly upon its evolution into Parasect. The tochukaso mushrooms that grow on its back go from parasitizing the Pokémon and influencing its actions to fully taking over its body. It seems clear that this Ursaluna has undergone a similar fate, losing its autonomy and perhaps any thought to the mushrooms infesting it.

Fan-Created Ursaluna Is A Horrific Fusion With Parasect

Between this Blood Moon Ursaluna’s entirely blank eyes and the mushrooms sprouting all over its body, NavAU has made it clear that the infestation is absolute. The eyes, which match Parasect’s, seem to indicate that the Pokémon has become something of a zombie as a result of this condition.

It is also worth noting that the normally gray mud covering Ursaluna is now a Parasect orange, perhaps implying that the protective coating has actually been replaced with a fungal version. Fan art has given many Pokémon creepy makeovers over the years, but this particular artwork becomes more nauseating the longer it is considered.

Parasitized Ursaluna Fan Art Depicts A Pokémon World Under Threat

NavAU notes in the image’s description that the piece is a continuation of similar illustrations from last year featuring other Pokémon, but this new image demonstrates impressive skill in manipulating a Pokémon’s actual 3D model. It is unclear what, if anything, the mushrooms would do with such a powerful body under their control, but it is easy to imagine a wave of similar infections spreading through the Timeless Woods and even the rest of Kiakami, especially given NavAU’s previous works. As a whole, the series of artwork implies a horrifying epidemic is slowly taking root throughout the Pokémon world.

Among all the mushroom-based Pokémon, Paras and Parasect are easily the creepiest. However, applying that same nightmarish scenario of being overtaken by mushrooms to other Pokémon seems to innately heighten the impact. This is perhaps because tochukaso have always been a part of the Bug-types, while introducing them to the designs of other Pokémon makes people fully contemplate the implications once more. In the case of NavAU’s Blood Moon Ursaluna, which is modeled with notable skill, the impact is even greater due to how it seems to have come directly from the Pokémon games. Altogether, with the Halloween season quickly approaching, it is a perfectly-timed and terrifying reimagining.
