The incredibly popular space MMO EVE Online will be receiving a new expansion later this year, entitled Havoc, a followup to the Uprising and Viridian expansions. Over the course of two decades the game has released over 20 expansions for players to explore things like new areas, factions, and mechanics. The Havoc expansion announcement is one of many to come out of EVE Fanfest 2023, an annual (usually) event that returns to Reykjavík, Iceland this year, home of EVE developer CCP Games, where the title is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The new EVE Online: Havoc expansion picks up the in-game story where four mysterious Jovian stargates were discovered last month by eager players who quickly solved the in-game puzzle, but for what purpose has remained a mystery until now when the gates opened just before the EVE Fanfest 2023 Keynote presentation. All we knew going into Fanfest is that there's an open invitation from the Deathless who promises as safehaven and riches for pirates...

And pirates are the theme of EVE Online's next expansion. Havoc focuses on new conflicts taking place across the galaxy that stem from the Angel Cartel and Guristas pirate factions. It's here players can make a new, important choice: side with the pirates and carry out insurgencies and cause chaos, or protect tradition by defending the Empires under attack. Capsuleers finally get their wish and can join the pirates for all-new rewards!

EVE Online: Havoc releases November 14, 2023.

More About EVE Online: Chaos & Fanfest 2023

The Havoc expansion will offer players different rewards based on the choices that they make. Those who choose to participate insurgencies will receive access to special faction-aligned storefronts to use their new loyalty points (LP) for, while Capsuleers who opt to fight against the chaos will be able to engage special in anti-pirate activities.

Looking to put more control in the hands of EVE Online players and letting them design their own missions, Corporation Projects are also getting a major overhaul with the release, with new ways to streamline management and reward members, a Corporation Project Manager role, and broader project types.

On the content front, there are new ships coming from the pirates like the long-awaited Titan of Titans, the Angel Titan, factional Battlecruisers and Destroyers will also come with Havoc alongside fresh customization options and quality of life improvements. These new ship blueprints are only available through the new LP earned for pirate activity but of course can be sold and traded later. The Angel Titan will take three or four weeks to build we're told.

This are just some of the many exciting announcements to come out of EVE Fanfest 2023 - fans have also been given their first look at the long-awaited FPS, called EVE Vanguard. The upcoming shooter picks up where Project Nova left off but is quite a bit different than what that prototype was aiming to be and the new EVE shooter will instead be module attached to the main game. A glimpse of the graphical and technical improvements set to be ushered in by the Carbon Engine, and more, were also highlighted during the EVE Fanfest 2023 Keynote as CCP Games builds on its foundation to launch the third decade of EVE Online. The celebration will continue into this weekend, bringing with it more news for EVE Online players over the course of the event.
