Party composition is everything in Baldur's Gate 3. With 12 classes to choose from and 10 Origin and non-Origin characters to recruit, there's plenty of experimentation to be done when it comes to party makeup. And while each of the recruitable companions comes with their very own default class, they can be changed or multiclassed for further customization.

While there's something to be said for the traditional party of tanks, DPSes, and healers, Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't impose any kind of limit on how a party is composed. As a result, it's possible - even encouraged - to get really, really weird with it. Whether it's to exploit an overpowered combo or simply to swarm enemies with tanky, high-damage builds, BG3 party composition isn't to be underestimated when it comes to causing utter chaos. Here are some of the strangest and most pandemonium-inducing party makeups worth testing out.

10 Oops! All Druids

The best thing about druids is their ability to take the form of various animals using the class feature Wild Shape. Having one druid in the mix is good, but more is better, and an all-druid party can do some serious damage. Besides powerful strikes with teeth, claws, and beaks, many of the druid's Wild Shape forms grant them a ton of temporary HP, making them also effective tanks. Plus, there's just something to be said about four owlbears forming a circle around a boss, taking turns at batting them around.

9 Pushing Party

In certain situations, shoving can be an incredibly useful tool. When enemies stand next to high ledges, difficult terrain, or bottomless chasms, it's possible, with a half-decent Athletics check, to push them directly into danger, and sometimes even death. A party that specializes in shoving can bully many a boss into instant submission.

The best way to achieve that is by creating three fighters with proficiency in Athletics, and a wizard or sorcerer with the enlarge/reduce and mage hand spells (or two of each). The spellcasters can make the target smaller, the shover larger, or all of the above with enlarge/reduce, then the high-strength fighters can shove to their hearts' content. As they find more Mind Flayer Parasite Specimens, each party member can also take the Force Tunnel power for an extra-painful, multi-target shove.

8 Positioning Party

Fighters, rogues, barbarians, wizards, and sorcerers each have moves that emphasize or allow them to quickly change their positioning. Between the spellcasters' AoE attacks and misty step, the fighter's long-distance shoves, the barbarian's tanking prowess, or the rogue's high ground advantage and Cunning Action, this party can pull off some creative maneuvers. With any combination of these four classes, Baldur's Gate 3 plays like a totally different game, putting much more emphasis on positioning. That goes double on Tactician mode, turning DnD-style combat into something resembling a strategy RPG.

7 Crushing Flight Party

One of the funniest and strongest exploits in Baldur's Gate 3 is the owlbear bomb. This is achieved by placing a druid atop a high ledge of any sort - either organic or player-manufactured - having them Wild Shape into owlbear form, casting enlarge on them, and making them jump down onto enemies below with Crushing Flight. Applied correctly, this strategy can one-shot even a boss with hundreds of HP. The best party to achieve this includes a druid to use Wild Shape, a sorcerer or wizard to cast enlarge, and a high-strength fighter to carry all the crates for stacking.

6 Oops! All Warlock/Rogues

This strategy requires every single party member to use the same build, but it can create an eternal game of keep-away in which enemies are at a constant disadvantage. Everyone will need at least three levels in warlock and two in rogue - enough to unlock the misty step and invisibility spells, along with Cunning Action. With this unique combination, each party member can spend every turn teleporting, disengaging, and/or disappearing, causing constant confusion about their exact location. As a result, the party will have advantage on many of their attack rolls, and enemies will have to waste a lot of their turns on searching and repositioning.

5 Three Barbarians And A Bard

A party composed of three barbarians and a bard can exploit unique features of each class to blitz through one battle after another. Barbarians are probably the outright tankiest class in the game, and rely on short rests to keep their HP up. But Baldur's Gate 3 explicitly limits short rests to two per in-game day. However, bards have another feature that can bypass this limit: Song of Rest, which functions as a third short rest. This way, the three barbs can spend combat sharing tank duties, without worrying about how they're going to heal up afterward. Meanwhile, the bard can inflict status effects to make the barbarians' jobs easier.

4 Rogues And Warlocks

Rogues and warlocks could be called two of the trickiest classes in Baldur's Gate 3. Not that they're difficult to learn - they both excel in the shadows, using subterfuge and status effects to catch the enemy at a disadvantage. Warlocks can also learn the invisibility spell, which is incredibly beneficial to rogues. Rogues gain a damage bonus from successful sneak attacks, making them often the strongest allies in the first turn of combat. In this party composition, two warlocks apply invisibility to two rogues before a battle begins. Sneak attack damage can ensure that they thin out the pack significantly in the first turn.

3 Multiattack Masters

At higher levels, monks, fighters, barbarians, and paladins each get an extra melee attack per turn. A party with one of each can keep control out of enemy hands, causing a ton of damage in a single round. Plus, with a barbarian and a paladin in one place, this party can take a hit just as easily as it can dish one out. Of course, some late-game humanoid enemies will have multiple attacks too. However, when each member of the player's party has multiple attacks, they'll rarely, if ever, feel outnumbered.

2 Pokémon Team

By comparison, a party full of the best spell-slinging classes changes up the game entirely. A wizard, a sorcerer, a warlock, and a cleric turn Baldur's Gate 3 into a game of Pokémon, with lots of potential for exploiting enemy weaknesses and inflicting status effects. But of course, it's not Pokémon without monster catching. Thankfully, a wizard of the necromancy school can scratch that itch, resurrecting enemies with animate corpse and create undead.

Turn the Baldur's Gate 3 party into Faerûn's hottest band with an all-bard party. Not only can this party compose the soundtrack to its own adventure, but it's also surprisingly effective in battle. Passing around Bardic Inspiration, creating buffs and debuffs, and healing freely make staying alive a breeze - but who's going to do the damage? That's where Baldur's Gate 3 multiclass combinations come in. Bards tend to play nice with other Charisma- and Dexterity-focused classes, like warlocks and monks, but there's nothing wrong with a good old dual support bard/cleric or a hard-hitting bardbarian.

Considering how easy it is to respec and multiclass, each of these party compositions is worth trying at least once. Of course, it's also possible to save the game, test out an unusual combination, and then reload the file to resume the game with no harm done. These can also be combined with other, non-class-specific exploits to create an overpowered, delightfully bizarre Baldur's Gate 3 experience.
