In a preview for Harley Quinn: Black + White + Redder #4's story "Harley Quinn and the Seven Sidekicks" by Zoe Thorogood, Harley is reeling from a breakup and watching television to distract herself. She stumbles upon a report about a Batman-themed convention with attendees dressed as Bat-Family members, sparking an idea in Harley. She decides that what's missing in her life is a sidekick and, unable to pick just one, takes on seven girls to be her new protegees. All of Harley's little 'H-Qs', are dressed like Harley, wearing costumes from various points in her history across DC media from her debut appearance to The Suicide Squad.

Harley Quinn has had a lot of interesting looks over the years, especially since she dumped her iconic jester outfit. Given her generous and impulsive nature, it makes sense that she'd take on over half a dozen sidekicks at once. But it works out in her favor as it gives Harley a chance to dress her mentees up in outfits from some of the most iconic points in her life. Harley Quinn has been on a long and wild journey and each of these costumes represents a notable point in her life, making her new sidekicks the perfect way of honoring Harley's past.

Harley Quinn's New Partners Represent Her Character Growth

The jury's out on whether Harley would make a good mentor for a crew of sidekicks. But as a novelty, it's fun to see Harley go for overkill as always and take on almost ten partners rather than the more sensible choice of one. This allows Harley to have some fun by turning her new partners into a walking, talking manifestation of her journey to independence. Chances are that Harley Quinn's new sidekicks won't be hanging around for long, but for now, they serve as a fun way of demonstrating just how much Harley has grown over the years. Harley Quinn: Black + White + Redder #4 is on sale October 17th.
