In Marvel’s dark and distant future, The Fantastic Four’s The Thing has a son named Reed Grimm, a kaiju-sized version of his iconic superhero father who does his best to protect the innocents of New York City with his sizable abilities and towering height. But when the good guys start losing to rogue Deadpool LMDs hellbent on taking over the world, Reed Grimm, with the help of the Venom symbiote, becomes the ultimate host for this staple Spider-Man-related anti-hero!

A story arc set in the near future where a geriatric Deadpool and Spider-Man attempt to right the wrongs of the past by erasing the LMD threat before it begins, it's not until the introduction of the future Fantastic Four and their Vision x Venom hybrid that the possibility of Reed Grimm taking on Marvel’s iconic symbiote reveals itself.

The Thing's son slowly Venomized while fighting

Needing to stop the army of robotic Deadpools from claiming victory, the moment that Reed Grimm becomes something more than his rocky parts comes after the Venom symbiote realizes that the only way they can win is if he bonds with Reed, creating an unstoppable juggernaut of a hero in the process.

Getting the Venom symbiote in 2018’s Spider-Man/Deadpool #34, by Robbie Thompson, Scott Hepburn, and Flaviano, Reed Grimm taking on host duties immediately pays off as his incredible power, skyscraper height, and heroic attitude allows him to take out and devour dozens of LMDs without breaking a sweat. Drawn to look like an enormous kaiju with a white “4” logo, gooey all-black rocky skin, and, of course, slimy red tongue, Reed’s composite design perfectly toes the line between Venom and The Thing, to say nothing of his increased might and newly acquired symbiote skills.

Already one of the strongest and largest heroes to have ever premiered in Marvel Comics even before getting a symbiote upgrade, Reed’s transformation puts him up there as one of the most overpowered versions of the Venom character ever seen in the Venomverse, with that fact further proven after the villain of this arc, Master Matrix, copies Reed’s Venom abilities and gifts them to his LMDs, creating a gooey, rocky-skinned army that can’t be beat. What’s more, this new and improved Reed comes complete with the perfect slogan that marries The Thing’s iconic battle phrase and Venom’s decidedly more gross nature: “It’s slobberin’ time!”

It’s almost certain that the Venom symbiote — or at the very least one of its infinite variants across the multiverse — will bond with a new host to create a unique hybrid hero or villain never seen before in comics, surprising fans and fictional characters alike with its inventive look and inspired design. But after giving fans this Reed Grimm x Venom mash-up, this colossal member of Marvel’s ever-expanding Venomverse will be a tall task to top.
