Warning: Spoilers for Resurrection of Magneto #1!No one has faced down the X-Men more often than Magneto, but in the end, he may be mutantkind's last hope against the population's deadliest threat. The former leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants has since successfully reformed over the past decade or so, helping Professor X build Krakoa to prominence. More recently, Magneto suffered a death that was previously thought to be permanent.

Apparently, that death was not as irreversible as previously speculated, as the Master of Magnetism's return has been set in motion, and will be the centerpiece of the upcoming Resurrection of Magneto series by Al Ewing and Luciano Vecchio.

The one force even more dangerous than Magneto is Orchis, the anti-mutant hate group who have turned the public against mutants, as well as committed genocide at the Hellfire Gala. The X-Men's numbers have been severely diminished, forcing the surviving mutants underground, and Krakoa's resurrection system is no longer an option. As Marvel teased at NYCC in its announcement of Resurrection of Magneto, all hope seems lost for Earth's mutants, and "only the hard roads are left." Now, in a last-ditch effort to save mutantkind, it's up to Storm to "bring their oldest enemy" back among the living to save the mutant population from Orchis.

Even though Magneto had turned over a new leaf in recent years, even coming to believe in a dream similar to that of Professor X before his death, his history with the X-Men still makes this turn of events surprising. Whether he's been rehabilitated or not, Magneto who spent decades attempting to conquer, undermine, and ultimately destroy the X-Men. Now, the powerful mutant could the last hope of survival for the X-Men and their people as a whole. Resurrection of Magneto will run alongside the Fall of the House of X miniseries, which is set to dramatically end the Krakoan era, suggesting newly returned Magneto might play a pivotal role.

Readers are also eager to learn how Magneto's return will work, without Krakoan technology at the X-Men's fingertips anymore. Equally interesting is Storm's involvement. Not only did Storm work closely alongside Magneto for years, once he finally became a hero, she was by his side when he died, making the stakes of this mission all the more personal. How she plans to bring him back remains to be seen, but she'll likely be as determined as she's ever been, in hopes of reviving an ally she watched develop positively as a person firsthand. In the end, Magneto may prove to be the secret weapon that the X-Men need to defeat Orchis.
