Set in the world of James Wan's horror franchise, The Conjuring TV show will be released on Warner Bros. Discovery's Max (rebranded from HBO Max), though not many production details have been revealed. Wan kicked off The Conjuring franchise in 2013 with the eponymous first movie that revolved around a farmhouse haunted by disturbingly dark forces in 1971. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga starred as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, roles that they reprised in the Conjuring sequels The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, along with the upcoming The Conjuring 4.

The Conjuring Universe also includes spin-offs around the haunted doll Annabelle and an incarnation of the demon Valak known as the Nun, and the franchise has left its mark on the horror genre. While Annabelle and The Nun have emerged as successful brands on their own, The Conjuring universe also includes The Curse of La Llorona which was inspired by Latin American folklore. The franchise also branched out with short films, including The Nurse and Blund's Lullaby. With such a diverse lineup of narratives interwoven narratives, the Conjurverse feels ripe for being explored in The Conjuring TV series.

Latest The Conjuring TV Show News

Lorraine Warren and all the Evil Spirits in The Conjuring Franchise

The most recent news on The Conjuring TV show arrived in mid-2023, though it wasn't a significant update on the small-screen Conjurverse spinoff. The 10th anniversary of the first The Conjuring movie came in 2023, which created renewed interest in what the next 10 years can bring. While there wasn't any significant news tying the anniversary to The Conjuring TV show, Warner Bros.' Peter Safran did provide a brief update on the series progress (via EW) — "There's some incredibly interesting stuff coming down the pipeline," and "I think our fans will be very pleased when they hear what they're doing." While Safran's comments were short, they at least confirmed that work on The Conjuring TV series is ongoing.

The Conjuring TV Show Is Confirmed

The Conjuring TV show is confirmed. On April 12, 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery officially stated that The Conjuring show will continue the movie franchise's story. The Conjuring Universe has been a major moneymaker for Warner Bros, currently ranking as the world's highest-grossing horror franchise (via Collider). Despite this, however, the announcement that TV spinoff was in the works was a welcome surprise.

The Conjuring TV Show Release Date Prediction

Conjuring Universe Watch Order

Much like the other projects it teased, Warner Bros. Discovery has not revealed any official release date for The Conjuring TV show. It's expected that The Conjuring TV won't arrive until after The Conjuring 4, which itself isn't expected until 2024 or 2025. A similar release window for The Conjuring TV show is possible, but it's likelier that the first TV spinoff based on The Warrens will debut closer to 2026.

The Conjuring TV Show Cast

The cast of The Conjuring TV show is still unknown, though it wouldn't be surprising if Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as Ed and Lorraine Warren. However, Wilson and Farmiga's appearance also depends on whether the story will focus on the Warrens or a separate narrative altogether. If the Warrens do feature in the show, their daughter Judy Warren can also feature. Sterling Jerins previously played Judy in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. It is also possible that the series features the Warrens as guest characters, but The Conjuring TV show cast regulars will be new.

Previously, every Conjuring spin-off has had unique cast members in every movie barring 2019's Annabelle Comes Home, which also featured Wilson and Farmiga reprising their roles as the Warrens. So, there are chances that previous franchise actors from The Nun and Annabelle movies whose characters are still alive can return for The Conjuring TV show cast. As for the non-human characters, make-up-heavy performances can be relied on with actors playing different demonic incarnations and supernatural beings that have defined the Conjuring Universe so far. With no casting details offered yet, it is uncertain if Bonnie Aarons will return to play Valak in the Demon Nun form.

The Conjuring TV Show Story Details

Max has confirmed that the Conjuring TV show plot will “continue the story established in the feature films.” While the films in question will definitely include the original Conjuring trilogy, it is not known if any other Conjuring lore like The Curse of La Llorona or the short films will be incorporated into the series. As the trilogy has gone forward in a chronological manner, it is possible that the Conjuring TV show will be set after 1981, the year of the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson which The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It focused on. But much like this film, the show might also include some flashback sequences.

If the Warrens do lead The Conjuring TV show story then it might focus on yet another case that challenged the demonologist couple. It is already being speculated that The Conjuring 4 might skip highly-publicized cases like the one that inspired the 2009 film The Haunting of Connecticut and focus on other terrifying but relatively low-profile cases such as the Smurl haunting of 1986. If The Conjuring 4 sticks to this time period, then The Conjuring TV show might go on to cover cases beyond that such as the Southend Werewolf case of 1989 that involved a man claiming to be possessed by a demon that takes the form of a werewolf.
