Over the course of more than 13 arcs, IDW Publishing's Sonic the Hedgehog has featured some of the wildest attacks in 65 issues, but the most memorable moves are the ones that involve more than one character.

Here is a comprehensive list of the 12 craziest combos. They are ranked by the amount of strength or skill the participants had to exert to perform them, their overall complexity, destructive force, and, of course, by the number of characters involved.

12 Knuckles Carries Amy Rose Like Tails

Knuckles carries Amy Rose

While only used to get from one end of a cave to another, it's still impressive that Knuckles is able to carry Amy Rose while gliding. This would have even been a big deal if Knuckles accomplished this by first getting a running start and jumping off a ledge, for example. But the situation is much more physically demanding for the echidna in Sonic #62 by Ian Flynn and Thomas Rothlisberger. While exploring Angel Island, the ground gives way underneath them, and Knuckles catches Amy Rose and still manages to glide through the air to safety.

11 Tails Throws Sonic In Mid-Air

Tails throws Sonic while flying

Tails' ability to throw Sonic upwards with enough destructive force to take down a large Badnik, all while flying, is impressive for the same reason as Knuckles being able to glide with Amy Rose. Of course, Tails has already proven himself more than capable of carrying Sonic in midair, but doing so while simultaneously throwing is a whole other matter. The combo occurs in Sonic #39 by Evan Stanley and Bracardi Curry when the dynamic duo and Amy Rose battle some of Dr. Eggman's untested Badniks on Dr. Eggman's mysterious tower.

10 Tangle Slingshots Sonic and Blaze

Tangle launches Blaze and Sonic

Tangle the Lemur's highly versatile tail is so multifunctional that her teammates can rely on her to help them achieve many different goals in battle. This instance is Tangle's least innovative use of her tail since she basically just re-purposes it into a slingshot to propel Sonic and Blaze the Cat upwards during an invasion of Spiral Hill Village in Sonic #4 by Ian Flynn and Evan Stanley. But it's still impressive that her tail can still propel two different people simultaneously at such high velocity.

9 Tangle Reverse Slingshots Sonic

Tangle pulls Sonic into Badniks

Tangle sure is busy in Sonic #4 because in the same issue where she slingshots Sonic and Blaze upwards, she uses her tail to create a reverse slingshot effect with Sonic. It's understandable that Tangle would perform so many combos in Sonic #4 since it was her debut issue, and what better way to introduce her character to the franchise than with a bang? In this instance, Tangle throws her tail past four Badniks who stand between her and Sonic and then invites him to pull. This results in Sonic ricocheting into all four of them like a deadly pinball.

8 Amy Rose Hits Sonic Upwards to Get Him Propelled By Propellors

Amy Rose hits Sonic with Piko Piko Hammer

This maneuver is the less impressive version of Sonic and Amy's best combo, but any move that involves Amy using her Piko Piko Hammer to hit Sonic like a ball definitely warrants attention. Moreover, Sonic incorporates another Badnik's attack into his overall tactic, so, technically, this combo involves three characters as opposed to just two. One issue after Tails throws Sonic while in midair, the eponymous hedgehog has Amy Rose hit him straight upwards in front of a Badnik's spinning propellors, the momentum of which Sonic uses to jettison himself into the direction of another Badnik and destroys it.

7 Tangle's Tail Braces Whisper for Sniping

Tangle braces Whisper for sniping

This particular combo makes the list not because it's complicated, innovative, or overly flashy but for sheer badassery. In issue #43 by Ian Flynn, Jamal Peppers, Bracardi Curry and Thomas Rothlisberger, Sonic is fighting off the entire Deadly Six so Tails can save the day by creating his invention. To help, Whisper uses her Variable Wispon to snipe them out from the sidelines. To eliminate the recoil, she gets herself wrapped up in Tangle's tail. It's so effective that the Deadly Six divert their attention to neutralizing the threat by targeting her directly.

6 Sonic Uses Whisper's Tail To Create A Tripwire

Sonic uses Tangle to create tripwire

During the Metal Virus' Zombot invasion, Sonic's Restoration has to make a tactical retreat from the besieged Spiral Hill Village, but since the Zombots would start swarming them once they focused their efforts on escaping rather than fighting, Sonic and Tangle create a much-needed bottleneck by making a tripwire with Tangle's tail in issue #24 by Ian Flynn and Adam Bryce Thomas. While Tangle's exploits usually result in her overexerting herself in a comical fashion, the strategy's execution is so especially elaborate that it's implied her tail would snap if they didn't stop. The entire combo is embellished further by the fact that Tangle sacrifices herself so that Sonic can get away.

5 Sonic and Amy's Croquette Bomber

Amy Rose hits Sonic like croquet

The more involved version of Amy's move where she uses her hammer to hit Sonic into the air ironically debuted much earlier in the series and, consequently enough, in the second issue. Called the Croquette Bomber, the combo begins by Sonic spin dashing in place before Amy proceeds to whack him with her hammer like a croquet mallet. The two hedgehogs have performed the move twice so far, but the first was definitely the most destructive. Their debut effort culminates in a giant Blowfish Transporter exploding in an impressive ball of flames.

4 Sonic and Tails' Combined Spin Dash

Tails and Sonic combined spin dash

Sonic and Tails' spin dashes have been iconic ever since their debut in the game Sonic 2, and IDW's comic series revolutionized the move by bringing them together for one awesome albeit physically impossible combo. While spin dashing, Tails uses his namesake to hold Sonic while he, too, is spin dashing to launch together into the air, tear through the ground, jump into a Badnik, rip through the Badnik, and then land on the other side. This epic move happens in issue #1, and it was certainly an amazing way to introduce the new series just because of how ubiquitous spin dashes are.

3 Amy Rose Smashes a Badnik with a Telekinetically Powered Hammer

Amy Rose uses Badnik Hammer with Silver

If it hasn't been made totally apparent yet, Amy Rose has an affinity for and proficiency in utilizing her hammer in battle. Any move that involves her smashing an enemy instead of Sonic in epic fashion deserves high praise, especially if it involves smashing a huge Badnik with an absolutely giant hammer that she wouldn't normally be able to lift on her own. During their second invasion of the Eggperial City in issue #58 by Flynn and Rothlisberger, Sonic spin dashes into the face of a massive hammer-wielding Badnik, causing the Badnik to drop its humongous weapon. Of course, Amy wants to wield it, but because it's obviously many times heavier than her, she orders Silver to use his telekinetic power to help her lift and slam the hammer on the Badnik's head.

2 Whisper Transforms Sonic into a Cyan Laser

Cyan Laser Sonic attacks Surge

This combo move is the comic's rendition of the Cyan Laser transportation technique from the game Sonic Colors, where Sonic transforms into a Cyan Wisp and shoots forward like a laser. In the game, the move is elongated if he bounces off special floating prisms. When battling Surge with Whisper in issue #54 by Evan Stanley and Natalie Haynes, Whisper tosses her Cyan Wisp at Sonic, causing him to undergo the transformation. While the toss to Sonic is simple, Sonic's Cyan Laser wisp form in the comics is so visually dynamic that it feels like a transformation akin to Super Sonic, which is one of the most iconic phenomena in the entire franchise.

1 Sonic's Epic Six-Person Attack

sonic the hedgehog new attack

This is not only the most destructive and complex combo move so far in IDW's Sonic, but it involves the highest number of participants. At the end of Sonic's second invasion of the Eggperial City, Eggman transforms the Command Tower into a massive mecha, forcing Sonic and his friends to perform the attack in Sonic #61. Blaze the Cat first thrusts Sonic into the air toward Tails while carrying Amy, who then wacks Sonic even higher into the sky. Meanwhile, Whisper uses her Variable Wispon to jettison herself and Tangle past Sonic momentarily. While they pass him, Tangle tosses her tail at Sonic, and with Sonic still holding onto her tail, Tangle then thrusts him down towards the Command Center, which Sonic easily destroys. With so much involved, it's no wonder this would be considered the craziest of all the combo moves seen so far in IDW Publishing's Sonic the Hedgehog.
