Summary

  • The Mandalorian and Ahsoka's storylines in the "Mandoverse" will converge in the upcoming Mandalorian movie, with the New Republic and Imperial Remnant clashing across the galaxy.
  • While Ahsoka Tano and Din Djarin won't meet again anytime soon, Ezra Bridger and Bo-Katan Kryze could be the crucial link between the two shows, now that they are in the same galaxy.
  • Ezra's knowledge of Thrawn's return and his connection with Mandalore through the purrgil could lead him to recruit Bo-Katan and make her a key figure in the fight against Thrawn in The Mandalorian movie.

One Star Wars character is on track to become the unexpected center of Dave Filoni’s The Mandalorian movie. The corner of the Star Wars timeline colloquially known as the “Mandoverse” on Disney+ continues to grow. Its flagship show, The Mandalorian, currently has three seasons under its belt with a fourth on the way, and the recently released Ahsoka show brought back Grand Admiral Thrawn – one of the Empire’s most formidable tacticians – setting up the central conflict of The Mandalorian movie, as the New Republic will be forced to reckon with the Imperial Remnant scattered across the galaxy.

How The Mandalorian and Ahsoka’s storylines will come together before The Mandalorian movie premieres remains to be seen. While a few obvious character connections have already been made, such as Ahsoka Tano meeting Din Djarin in The Mandalorian season 2, another meeting between them seems unlikely any time soon, with Ahsoka and her Mandalorian Padawan Sabine Wren currently stranded on Peridea in another galaxy. There is, however, another character pairing that could prove to be the crucial bridge between the two live-action Star Wars shows – two characters who now happen to be in the same galaxy at the same time.

Ezra Bridger & Bo-Katan Kryze Met In Star Wars Rebels Season 4

Ezra Bridger and Bo-Katan Kryze in Star Wars Rebels season 4

After the events of Ahsoka, the formerly missing Jedi Ezra Bridger has returned to Star Wars’ prime galaxy. Ezra’s most important relationships are with the other members of Star Wars Rebels’ Ghost crew, including Sabine, New Republic General Hera Syndulla, and New Republic pilot Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios, who had a brief cameo in The Mandalorian season 3. Ezra also knows a major The Mandalorian character, however – Bo-Katan Kryze, the current ruler of Mandalore. Ezra and Bo-Katan met in the first two episodes of Star Wars Rebels season 4 while undertaking a mission to save Sabine’s father from execution by the Empire. In these episodes, Bo-Katan also received the legendary Darksaber from Sabine Wren and became the de facto ruler of Mandalore for the first time.

Ezra Can Be The One That Recruits Bo-Katan In The Fight Against Thrawn

The remaining Mandalorians who have reclaimed Mandalore are well aware of the Imperial Remnant and its resources. Given Mandalore’s dark history with the Empire, the Mandalorians will be willing to do anything to stop the Empire's resurgence. At the same time, Hera Syndulla and Captain Carson Teva have both had a hard time convincing the leaders of the New Republic that the threat of the Empire’s return is genuine. Both sides will undoubtedly be looking for allies in the fight against Thrawn and the other Imperials. With Sabine and Ahsoka off on a distant planet, however, Ezra and Bo-Katan have become the most likely candidates to bring them all together.

Ezra will play a vital role in the coming war against Thrawn. He is currently one of the few who knows with utter certainty that Thrawn has returned to Star Wars’ prime galaxy and has first-hand knowledge of Thrawn’s extra-galactic resources. Interestingly enough, Mandalore is also featured on the star map seen during Ahsoka’s credit sequence, which tracks the hyperspace migration paths of the purrgil, Star Wars’ space whales. Ezra’s innate connection with the purrgil might lead him straight to Mandalore and Bo-Katan. If Ezra calls on her for help, Bo-Katan Kryze could suddenly become one of the most important characters in The Mandalorian movie, leading the fight against Thrawn and the Imperial Remnant in her capacity as ruler of Mandalore.
