Summary

  • Rey may have the ability to resurrect Ben Solo using their Force Dyad connection, potentially bringing him back as a Force Ghost.
  • Rey's new Jedi Order might have ties to the origins of the Jedi, with her possessing sacred Jedi texts and a potential connection to a "Dawn of the Jedi" project.
  • The New Jedi Order may face a threat from the canon Yuuzhan Vong, a mysterious and biotechnologically advanced race that could pose a unique challenge for Rey and the Jedi.

Here are the most exciting theories about Rey's new Jedi Order movie, one of the most exciting Star Wars projects in the works. The last Star Wars movie, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, released in 2019 and since then Lucasfilm has seemed dedicated to ongoing Disney+ TV shows. That seems to have changed recently, though, with Lucasfilm announcing three upcoming Star Wars movies - one featuring the return of Daisy Ridley's Rey.

The last time Rey was seen on the big screen, she took on the Skywalker name in honor of her heroes and mentors and debuted her own yellow lightsaber. After completing her journey as a Jedi, proving herself by facing Palpatine himself, it seemed a logical step for Rey to found a new Jedi Order. All evidence suggests this will prove to be a challenge for Rey, however, and here are the most exciting theories about the movie.

4 Kylo Ren Will Return Via The Force Dyad

Kylo Ren’s redemption arc was finally completed at the end of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, after a tumultuous journey in and out of the dark side. Unfortunately, his heroic ending was very short-lived, and he ultimately sacrificed his own life to save Rey’s through the Force. This ability has sparked many theories that he and Rey were actually a Force Dyad, a special and uncommon bond that unites two Force-users through both its light and dark sides. Rey and Kylo Ren perfectly embodied that relationship, and the comics and other companion pieces have further confirmed the nature of that bond.

Through the power of their Force Dyad, Kylo Ren was able to pull Rey back from death. Since Rey’s movie takes place 15 years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it’s possible that Rey could have used that time to master her skills to the extent that she could achieve Ben Solo’s resurrection even though so much time had passed; according to Sith lore, the Force Dyad is the key to life and death itself. Even if he is not physically restored, the nature of a Force Dyad would be the perfect introduction for Ben Solo to return as a Force Ghost.

3 Rey's New Jedi Order Ties To The Very First Jedi

Star Wars is expanding into different time periods, including a mysterious "Dawn of the Jedi" project that will unveil the first Force users and reveal what came before the Jedi Order. The secrets of these distant days had been lost by the time of Rey, but it's possible she has recovered them - given Rey possesses sacred Jedi texts that had been lost generations ago. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has herself implied a connection between the Jedi origin and Rey's movie, or at least some sort of narrative throughline. She explained the dawn of the Jedi movie is timely because "it will be at the heart of creating the new Jedi Order, so to get a real sense of where that might have began with the dawn of the Jedi could be pretty cool."

The Jedi had fallen a long way by the time of the prequel era, and their flaws have become clear. It makes sense that Rey would wish to look beyond the prequels for inspiration as she reforms the Jedi, meaning there could be profound links between these two movies. Most viewers are assuming the various Star Wars movies are relatively disconnected, but there could be much stronger ties than anyone has expected.

2 The New Jedi Order Will Face The Canon Yuuzhan Vong

Vergere confronting Yuuzhan Vong in Star Wars

Ahsoka has established the existence of other galaxies, with its hero traveling the pathway to Peridea. According to Jedi legends, Peridea isn't the only galaxy once linked to the main one - and this raises the possibility Star Wars will draw inspiration from the Legends version of the "New Jedi Order." In this series of novels, a race of extragalactic invaders called the Yuuzhan Vong launched an invasion on the galaxy, coming close to wiping the Jedi out - and even taking the galactic capital of Coruscant.

The Yuuzhan Vong were notable for two things. The first is that they are mysterious voids in the Force, a fact that left the Jedi reeling and their powers largely ineffective against the aliens. Such a twist would be fascinating, leaving Rey facing a threat so very different to the Sith. Even more importantly, though, the Yuuzhan Vong were noted for using biotechnology - taking advantage of alien lifeforms, enslaving them and shaping them in their own image. In canon, the galaxies are linked by the space whales known as purrgil, and it's easy to imagine the Yuuzhan Vong using purrgil to travel through the intergalactic void.

1 Rey Faces A Jedi Schism

Star Wars Jedi Civil War

There's some speculation Rey will face a civil war among the Jedi. Speaking to Empire Magazine, Kennedy revealed the "Jedi are in chaos" after the fall of the First Order. The plain interpretation of this is that there will be different forces among the Jedi, pulling in different directions. 5,000 years before the main Star Wars saga, a Jedi civil war led to the creation of the Sith. A new bout of infighting among the Jedi could result in a similarly catastrophic outcome. With the newly-discovered Sith redoubt Exegol still relatively fresh in Rey's past, there are so many dark secrets that could be uncovered.

Precious little is known about Rey's new Jedi Order movie. These theories all fit with the few clues Lucasfilm has provided to date, and that makes them particularly exciting. It remains to be seen whether any of these will prove to be true, or whether other ideas will be developed instead; it's quite possible Lucasfilm's plans will change, meaning the clues given so far could prove to be red herrings. But whether these theorie are correct or not, the future looks bright for Star Wars - and Daisy Ridley's Rey is clearly at the heart of it.
