Summary

  • Daredevil: Born Again is undergoing a huge rework after the show already filmed several episodes.
  • The team is committed to delivering the best series possible, one that they can be proud of despite behind-the-scenes complications.
  • D'Onofrio encourages fans to trust in the process and have faith in the team's abilities to deliver an engaging Daredevil series.

With Daredevil: Born Again largely starting over from scratch, Kingpin actor Vincent D'Onofrio opens up about the major restart that is happening with the Marvel Cinematic Universe show. The MCU has gotten into one of its biggest hurdles as Daredevil: Born Again, set to feature Charlie Cox and D'Onofrio, sets to move forward after major setbacks. Despite having filmed a few episodes, Marvel Studios has fired the writers and directors from Daredevil: Born Again season 1, as they are now looking to retool the Disney+ drama.

Only hours after the initial report came out, the first Daredevil: Born Again cast member has broken their silence about the drastic shake-up. When @yash_k2001 re-quoted the star's tweet from April about Daredevil: Born Again, mockingly saying, "Well now this aged poorly," D'Onofrio decided to respond to the user with some brutal honesty.

D'Onofrio stressed that "unless you really know what's going," the fan could be very wrong about their initial statement. The MCU veteran added that they are "going to bring forward the best series we can. One we can be proud of," while also adding that they should have "some trust."

D'Onofrio then went on to clarify why changes to Daredevil: Born Again shouldn't be a cause for immediate concern and that, "Every cool project I've been involved with has evolved constantly during pre- production, production and post."

Daredevil: Born Again's Big Changes Explained

Matt Murdock's Daredevil and Wilson Fisk's Kingpin in the MCU

Despite having started working on Daredevil: Born Again, it turned out that Marvel Studios made the decision to let go of the main writers and directors at the end of September. While bits and pieces will be used from some of the produced episodes, Daredevil: Born Again season 1 is starting over from the beginning as Marvel Studios is now looking to tap a new creative team. That would also potentially explain why Marvel Studios took Daredevil: Born Again off the MCU timeline schedule for Phase 5.

Daredevil: Born Again's shake-up is the result of Marvel Studios looking to restructure the way they are making MCU shows following several products' poor critical reception and execution. In Daredevil: Born Again's case, Kevin Feige and the Marvel executives felt the show was too much of a legal drama and less of what made Netflix's Daredevil series as successful as it was during its run. With a desire to make Daredevil: Born Again even more serialized, Marvel Studios and Disney+ are envisioning the show for at least two seasons, hence the need to restart the creative process.

Time will tell if any other Daredevil: Born Again cast members will speak out about the show starting over from scratch. It's definitely interesting that Daredevil: Born Again's overhaul is coming to the public now, especially after a listing appeared at the U.S. Copyright Office, suggesting the show will arrive in 2025. Hopefully, once they find their new creative vision for Daredevil: Born Again, filming will be able to kick off and run smoothly as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen gets ready to return to the MCU.
