Between Sony and the MCU, there are a selection of exciting Marvel movies releasing in 2024. While the MCU is the first thing that comes to mind to most moviegoers when it comes to Marvel, the release of movies like Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse have provided a first-hand look at the idea that other Marvel movies can have phenomenal success, making 2024's release roster all the more hotly anticipated. However, recent Marvel movie configurations have left how many movies actually release in 2024 a little more confusing than it may have previously appeared.

Various Marvel movies and shows have seen their release dates change as a result of inner reorganizing and the effects of the SAG-AFTRA strikes, which delayed a number of impending installments. These factors have meant some movies saw drastic changes, either being moved from 2023 into 2024, moved far further into 2024, or - in an unusual case - actually brought forward as a result. While the roster of Marvel movies releasing in 2024 has seen some notable alterations, the current lineup still holds a lot of promise, and should provide audiences a stellar variety of film experiences.

Madame Web - February 14, 2024

Next year's Marvel slate currently starts out with a much speculated about Sony movie, as the ambitious Madame Web swings into theaters for a February 14, 2024, release after Sony's Marvel movie release changes moved it forward by two days. The film has assembled quite an entertaining cast, with the female-led Marvel adventure featuring an all-star ensemble. Madame Web's cast includes Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, Isabela Merced, and Adam Scott. No roles have been specified at this time, although rumors point to different versions of Madame Web from the comics being in play.

In Marvel Comics, the first Madame Web is Cassandra Webb, a blind and paralyzed elderly woman who has powers that let her access the multiverse. Tahar Rahim's character being spotted with a Spider-Man-like suit on the Madame Web set might hint at a big multiverse event suitable for the comic character's first big movie appearance. Madame Web's comic book history, the vast talent of the movie's cast, and the current popularity of the multiverse in the superhero medium all suggest the movie could well be a big hit.

Deadpool 3 - May 3, 2024

Deadpool 3 will mark a new era for the MCU, with the movie set to be the first time Marvel Studios reintroduces a Fox character as the lead of an MCU movie. Deadpool 3 releases on May 3, 2024, after being pushed back from its initial scheduled release on November 8, 2024. However, despite this pushback, the film has a huge chance of being next year's biggest superhero movie release. The movie marks the return of not only Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, but also Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, despite the actor saying he was done with the role in the past.

Deadpool 3's star-studded cast also includes the returns of franchise players Leslie Uggams as Blind Al and Karan Soni as Dopinder, plus the additions of Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) in undisclosed roles. Stranger Things' Shawn Levy directs the movie, based on a script from Deadpool franchise writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The movie is rumored to feature a multiverse-related plot with Loki's Time Variance Authority and Owen Wilson's Mobius showing up to capture Deadpool. The crossover of the Fox X-Men and MCU franchises on Deadpool 3 has built great anticipation for the Marvel film and the comic book giant's future.

Venom 3 - June 12, 2024

Venom 3 is set for a June 24, 2024 release, ensuring audiences don't have to wait too long to get an answer to the mysteries that arose when Tom Hardy's Sony antihero appeared in the MCU's Spider-Man: No Way Home. Venom 3 can not only flesh out whether this moment was a fun crossover moment or something more, but also shed light on what Sony's Marvel universe is set to look like, as the third movie in the most successful series of Sony's live-action Spider-Man universe.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse also hints at Venom 3 potentially having a more multiverse-leaning plot, with its villain traveling into the Venom world to interact with Mrs. Chen, the convenience store owner in both released live-action movies. Whether the film will capitalize on its two multiverse crossover moments it yet to be seen, as little is known about the Venom 3 story, and only Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock is currently confirmed in terms of characters, though Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor are cast in undisclosed roles.

A teaser showing Tom Hardy screaming at graffiti of a dog has led to theories regarding the plot, however. Fans have speculated this teases either that Venom 3 will involve the Lobo Cartel - a gang of werewolves from the comics - or otherwise feature Eddie Brock and Venom hunting another dangerous symbiote. This said, it's also possible the tease simply serves to promise more unhinged antihero action, which is also a promising prospect by itself.

Captain America: Brave New World - July 24, 2024

Following his journey to becoming Steve Rogers' successor in Disney+'s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie's Captain America: Brave New World is slated for release on July 24, 2024, moving it back from the original May 3, 2024 release - and changing its name from the original Captain America: New World Order title. The movie will be the fourth Captain America solo adventure in the MCU, but the first with Mackie's Sam Wilson in the role. The character will have a hard job replacing Chris Evans' super soldier Steve Rogers from the get-go, with a very powerful foe set to be on the new Captain America's way.

While official details about Captain America: Brave New World's plot are scarce, it is known that the movie will share some interesting connections to one of the earliest MCU entries, 2008's The Incredible Hulk. Hollywood legend Harrison Ford joins the film as Thunderbolt Ross, taking over the role from the late William Hurt. Ross will be the new President of the United States in the movie and will also be accompanied by the return of his daughter Betty, played by Liv Tyler. Tim Blake Nelson rounds up the movie's The Incredible Hulk reunion, playing the main threat to Captain America, the Hulk villain known as the Leader.

Kraven The Hunter - August 30, 2024

The last of 2024's Sony Spider-Man Universe movies sees Kraven the Hunter release on August 30, 2024, after being pushed notably back from its previous release date of October 3, 2023. While this is a move that could sabotage any hype already built up, it's also one that may work in the film's overall benefit, as its initial closer proximity to the infamous Morbius drew jokes that may be avoided with a later release.

And a positive reception is crucial here, as Kraven the Hunter's plot provides an altered origin story for Aaron Taylor-Johnson's version of the titular Spider-Man villain that could be intended to spawn its own distinct series. Indeed, this decision appears intended to make Kraven a prospective antihero in the Sony live-action movie universe, potentially even leading into a Sinister Six installment should the film do well enough.

Thunderbolts - December 20, 2024

Thunderbolts releases on December 2024, moving it back a whole 5 months from its initial announced July 26, 2024 release - and into the Christmas movie period, which could potentially be a great thing for Thunderbolts' box office. There are not many official details revealed from the film, but the interesting connection between characters from separate corners of the MCU should provide an exciting angle to the Marvel movie.

The Thunderbolts lineup includes Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). The team will be assembled by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), playing off her previous mysterious MCU appearances. The movie will feature a three-way reunion from the Netflix series Beef, with Jake Schreier directing, Lee Sung Jin rewriting Eric Pearson's script, and Steven Yeun starring in an undisclosed role.

Thunderbolts will be a vital movie for the MCU and its future, both in how it furthers the stories of several existing characters, and in what it shows about how audiences react to an Avengers-style movie with a cast that leans more towards being antiheroes. Given the success of the Disney+ Loki series, both of these prospects hold promise for the movie - and thus could mean that future MCU installments get to focus more on figures outside of the conventional hero roster.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse - TBD

Initially conceived as two parts of the same movie, the next two entries in Sony's Academy Award-winning animated Spider-Verse movie franchise were separated, with Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse releasing June 2023 to massive critical and commercial success. Following the second movie, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was initially announced to release on March 29, 2024.

However, the Sony Marvel movie changes have seen Beyond The Spider-Verse's release date removed, and the pending release changed to an undetermined date due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes - as while these do not affect animators, they do affect the actors lending their voices to the characters within the movie. A source in the Spider-Verse animator roster also alleged that the movie would be unable to meet its original March 2024 release simply because the production was not at a stage for this timeline to work, meaning that while a 2024 release is still within the realm of possibility for Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, delaying the movie into 2025 may be possible and even preferable depending on circumstances.

MCU TV Shows Releasing In 2024

2024's MCU movies are not the only series that have seen some shakeups as a result of release alterations, as the upcoming MCU TV shows releasing in 2024 have also changed as a result of the same circumstances. Currently, 4 MCU shows are set to appear in 2024, though specific release dates are currently unknown for all of these projects, and may see alterations even after they are formally announced, much as is the case with the Marvel movie roster:
