Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for Loki season 2, episode 2, "Breaking Brad"!

Summary

  • Director Dan DeLeeuw teases that the definitive version of Kang the Conqueror has yet to be shown in Loki season 2.
  • The only Kang variant shown so far is Victor Timely, a 1900s industrialist and inventor.
  • It is unknown how many Kang incarnations will appear in Loki season 2 due to changes in Marvel's development process and Jonathan Majors' legal issues.

With one variant already largely teased in the show's marketing, director Dan DeLeeuw teases Loki season 2 has yet to show the "definitive" Kang. Jonathan Majors returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the latest chapter of the Tom Hiddleston-fronted show, with the eponymous God of Mischief having now been clued in to the danger his variants pose to the wider multiverse by TVA founder He Who Remains. Kang is currently set to be the big bad in the wake of Thanos' defeat in Avengers: Endgame, expected to culminate in epic face-offs with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.

Following the show's most recent episode, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with Dan DeLeeuw to discuss his work on Loki season. When asked whether audiences have seen his favorite variant of Kang the Conqueror, the director admitted to enjoying every one currently in the MCU, though teased that "the definitive Kang" has yet to be shown. Check out what DeLeeuw teased below:

Oh, interesting. I love all the Kangs, I think Kang's a great character. I don't know that we've seen the definitive Kang yet, in terms of what I would envision the definitive Kang [to be]. I think there's still someone yet to come out of the shadows.

How Many Kang Variants Could Loki Season 2 Feature?

Jonathan Majors' Victor Timely in Loki season 2-1

At the time of writing, the only Kang variant audiences have seen from Loki season 2 has been that of Victor Timely. A 1900s industrialist and inventor, the character was initially teased with one of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's credits scenes, which pulled directly from the new season as Hiddleston's Loki and Owen Wilson's Mobius were in attendance of a presentation held by Timely, much to Loki's horror. The scene has yet to be revealed in the show, though with Loki and Sylvie having successfully stopped General Dox from further pruning branching multiverse timelines, it seems likely the focus will shift to his arrival in the next episode.

Prior to the show's release, Marvel exec Kevin Wright teased that Timely would be "a big part" of the show following his introduction, with various trailers teasing not only the 1900s sequence, but also Miss Minutes terrorizing the crowds appearing at the Chicago World's Fair. Given the first two episodes set up Sylvie as wanting to kill any further Kang variants to crop up, it will be interesting to see whether Loki and Mobius take a similar approach to their encounter with him, or if they turn to him for help in repairing the crumbling TVA.

With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania revealing hundreds of variants in its mid-credits scene, namely the Council of Kangs, the question also becomes how many Kang incarnations will appear in Loki season 2. Reports during the show's production indicated that Majors would portray multiple versions of the character in the hopes of setting up wider ties to the MCU's multiverse. However, between the recent changes being made to Marvel's development process, and Majors' own legal issues affecting public opinion of the actor, it remains unclear how many Conquerors will appear.
