After the disappointing performance of 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder, speculation has been rising about how Thor 5 can revitalize the MCU's Thor franchise again, and one popular suggestion brings brothers Thor and Tom Hiddleston's Loki back together, as they've been separated since Avengers: Infinity War.

How Loki & Thor Could Reunite For Thor 5

The comic story featured the Grandmaster challenging Death to a game, with the life of fellow Elder of the Universe the Collector as the prize. Each entity constructed teams of Earth's heroes to battle, including some high-profile heroes such as Iron Man, Daredevil, Captain America, and the Black Panther. Jeff Goldblum's debut as the Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok means the stage has already been set for this event to be adapted for the MCU, potentially involving Thor and Loki on opposing teams.

Loki's return to the main MCU continuity has been theorized since his variant escaped during Avengers: Endgame's Time Heist, leading into Phase 4's Loki season 1. Over the course of his Disney+ series, Loki has embarked on a redemption arc and has learned a great deal about the multiverse and the MCU's new overarching villain, Kang the Conqueror, which could make him crucial to Phase 6's Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. This makes a reunion for Thor and Loki all but inevitable in the MCU's Phase 6, though this could also occur in Thor 5, depending on when the rumored Marvel Studios sequel releases.
