Superman: Legacy star David Corenswet looks remarkably similar to previous DCEU Superman Henry Cavill in new photos of the DC Universe's Clark Kent actor. After a lengthy casting process, Corenswet was chosen to play the DC Universe's Kal-El on James Gunn's Superman: Legacy. The actor has now started bulking up for the role ahead of Superman: Legacy's filming start — reported to be Spring 2024.

Just Jared (via @CorenswetNews on Twitter) has shared new photos of Superman: Legacy's Corenswet, and he is looking a lot like Cavill.

Corenswet and Cavill have been compared to one another ever since it was revealed that Corenswet was part of Gunn's shortlist of actors to play Superman in his upcoming DC movie. Appearing with a beard and a bigger frame in the new photos, Corenswet looks eerily similar to Cavill — especially Cavill's look at the start of Man of Steel — which should fuel the arguments from fans that already thought the two looked alike before.

Why Superman: Legacy Cast David Corenswet Over Henry Cavill

Gunn has made it clear that his aim with Superman: Legacy is to present a different take on the hero from the DCEU's tortured version of Kal-El. Superman: Legacy will reportedly follow a younger Clark Kent — though Gunn confirmed the movie won't show his origin story — who is starting as a journalist at the Daily Planet, learning from Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane and the still-to-be-cast Jimmy Olsen.

Superman: Legacy's cast including Cavill would make little sense, as the DCEU actor is ten years older than Corenswet, and his time as Superman was, sadly, shrouded in controversy. Starting fresh was the best decision the DCU could make. As shown by how all 2023 DCEU movies so far — Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle — have had bad numbers at the box office, major change is necessary for DC, and Cavill leaving is part of that.

While he was a good choice for Superman, it's time for DC to move on from Cavill. Corenswet is the perfect choice to lead the new DC Universe as its Man of Steel, starting with Superman: Legacy. The new Superman actor's comments from four years ago, with Corenswet saying, "I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic," is a perfect match for Gunn's plans for the character. While Cavill is out, Corenswet's time as Clark Kent is only starting, and Superman: Legacy is showing a lot of promise to be the best Superman movie yet.
