  • Isabela Merced will be playing Hawkgirl in James Gunn's DC Universe reboot in the upcoming film Superman: Legacy.
  • The fan artwork by Felipe Illa showcases Merced's modern redesign of Hawkgirl's costume.

New Superman: Legacy fan art brings Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl to life in James Gunn's DC Universe. The new DC Universe is on its way as Gunn and Peter Safran are starting over from scratch for Warner Bros. Discovery when it comes to running a cinematic universe based on the DC Comics characters. The first proper movie will be Superman: Legacy, featuring David Corenswet as the big screen's new Man of Steel.

While Corenswet will be the latest actor to play Superman in live-action, he won't be the only superhero in Superman: Legacy, as several actors have been tapped for iconic roles. One of them will be Merced, who is set to play Hawkgirl, and through new fan art by Felipe Illa, the actress gets imagined as the winged heroine for Gunn's DC Universe reboot.

The Superman: Legacy fan artwork sees Merced with a modern redesign of Hawkgirl's costume, which has gone through several designs in the comics. Superman: Legacy won't be the only superhero film that Merced gets to be part of, as she will be seen in 2024's Madame Web movie.

Outside of Merced, Superman: Legacy has three other confirmed superheroes for the time being, as it's unclear if Gunn is adding any more. Nathan Fillion, who played T.D.K. in the DCEU movie The Suicide Squad, will be coming on board as Guy Gardner, a.k.a. one of the famous Green Lanterns. Edi Gathegi and Anthony Carrigan have also been tapped as Mister Terrific and Metaporpho, respectively.

Superman: Legacy will also reportedly feature members of The Authority, although that has yet to be confirmed nor denied by Gunn. While there are a lot of superheroes in Superman: Legacy, Gunn has made it clear that they are only there as supporting characters for Clark Kent's overall story. With this being a DC Universe that already has superheroes active in this continuity, the four heroes will be there to reflect upon Gunn's vision for the new franchise.

Once the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, casting will be able to resume on Superman: Legacy, meaning there may be more clarification on whether or not other DC Universe heroes are joining the film. With all of the characters lined up for the Man of Tomorrow's latest reboot, it will be exciting to see in what other ways they factor into his story. But for now, the world will have to wait and see what happens with Superman: Legacy as it hopefully is able to meet its early 2024 production start.
