  • Paramount is prioritizing a new Star Trek movie and a live-action adaptation of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six now that the strikes are over, hoping to revive these franchises.
  • Warner Bros. is eager to continue filming the sequel to The Batman and the Superman reboot, while also focusing on completing projects like Beetlejuice 2 and Gladiator 2 .

After 148 days, the Writers Guild of America has finally reached a fair deal with the studios, ending the second-longest strike in the history of the industry — and studios are eager to start making movies again. Since early May, no writer in the guild could work on any Hollywood production, stalling almost every movie in pre-production and delaying those that were already filming. Now that the strike is over, rewrites can be done for movies that were in the middle of shooting, and projects that studios are prioritizing can finally be written.

According to Variety, "several big movie projects could see pre-production resume quickly," but many are still held up by the SAG-AFTRA strike that has yet to be resolved. Filming for most of these projects can't resume until the actors also receive fair compensation for their work. However, with the writers no longer picketing, at least some movement can be made on these films. The end of these strikes is well in sight, and these are the movies that Hollywood is paying attention to first.

9 Star Trek

Star Trek 2009 ending

Despite having several shows running on Paramount+, the Star Trek franchise has recently had trouble in the world of feature films. A new Star Trek movie has been in development hell for years before the strike was even a thought, but now Paramount is making the new Star Trek movie a top priority. This project will reportedly be another reboot and not a sequel to the Chris Pine-led trilogy. While it is a shame to see such a talented cast go, Star Trek has been far too silent on the big screen. Therefore, any movement on a new movie is exciting.

8 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six

Another movie Paramount is desperate to get written now that the strikes are over is a live-action adaptation of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. Before the strikes began, it was announced that John Wick director John Wick director Chad Stahelski will helm the video game adaptation. It will also star Michael B. Jordan, who is reprising his role from Without Remorse. Work on the script had reportedly already begun, but with writers back to work, the final touches can be added so that the film can enter production as soon as possible.

7 The Batman Part 2

The sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman was scheduled to begin filming this fall, but with the writer and actor strikes stalling the entire industry, that became impossible. While filming can't begin until SAG reaches a deal, Warner Bros. is desperate to get the project off the ground, and Reeves' script is a top priority for the studio. It is unclear how far Reeves was into the writing process when the strike began. However, he has no doubt been thinking about the film in the intervening months of the strike and is probably excited to return to the world of Gotham.

6 Superman: Legacy

Writer and director James Gunn claimed to have finished the script for his Superman reboot before the strikes started in May. However, Gunn is a writer who is constantly rewriting and adding to his scripts. Gunn never stopped working on Superman: Legacy, as he was still working as the film's director and was deep into pre-production. With the strike ending, he is now freer to craft the story. Following Superman Legacy's filming delay, production is now set to start in early 2024. As long as the studios come to the actors with a fair deal soon, it should be able to make that date.

5 Minecraft

10 Best Minecraft Seeds For Villages

The Jason Momoa-led Minecraft movie reportedly already has a finished script and is waiting for the actors to begin production. Minecraft has had a long and strange journey to the big screen. Originally conceived as an animated film, then as a live-action adventure, the movie has been stuck in pre-production for over a decade. However, the studio is confident in this latest version and is making it a top priority after the WGA strikes. Given that movies like Sonic the Hedgehog and The Super Mario Bros. Movie are proving the video game adaptation curse is dead, there's a lot of potential in this project.

4 Gladiator 2

Russell Crowe as Maximus in Gladiator

Ridley Scott's long-awaited sequel to his Best Picture-winning Gladiator was halfway through filming when SAG went on strike, halting production entirely. The studio has been eager to make a Gladiator sequel for decades, and now that the Paul Mescal-led film is actually happening, it is making it a priority after the strikes. While production had already started, rewrites are common for films of this scale. Until the actors can return to set, rewrites are the most the studio can do.

3 Beetlejuice 2

Harry the Hunter in Beetlejuice

Yet another long-gestating sequel whose production was shut down due to the strikes, Beetlejuice 2 had a day and a half left of filming before things had to be put on hold. However, that is not taking into account any reshoots the sequel will have to go through. With the writers back to work before the actors, writing for those reshoots is bound to begin immediately. Warner Bros. has been trying to make Beetlejuice 2 since the early '90s, so this sequel high on its list of films to complete after the strikes.

2 Juror No. 2

Clint Eastwood sits on a porch in Gran Torino

Juror No. 2, which is allegedly the final movie from Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood, was also days away from finishing filming when production shut down. Eastwood makes movies quickly, often doing only one or two takes per shot. Once the actors are back on set, production should wrap up quickly. Warner Bros. sees this as a prestige release and a possible awards contender, so even if the film is finished soon, it likely won't arrive until fall of next year.

1 Deadpool 3

Deadpool and Wolverine in the MCU's Deadpool 3

There is just something about a Deadpool/Wolverine team-up that attracts a writer's strike. When X-Men Origins: Wolverine entered production in 2007, the WGA went on strike, heavily disrupting the filmmaking process. The same thing happened with Deadpool 3. While production was able to commence before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Ryan Reynolds, who is a member of the WGA, was not allowed to improvise or do any rewrites on the superhero sequel. Work on the film has reportedly started immediately, as Disney views this as one of its biggest upcoming projects.
