Summary

  • Artwork pays tribute to all the live-action actors who have played Superman, including Christopher Reeve and upcoming actor David Corenswet.
  • Possibility of a Superman multiverse film like Spider-Verse is discussed, with various Superman actors expressing interest in the idea.
  • Warner Bros. should seize the opportunity to bring together multiple Superman actors and explore the potential of a multiverse, including the concept of multiple Lois Lanes.

Every live-action actor who has played Superman travels across the multiverse for the biggest DC team-up in new fan art. When it comes to adapting DC characters from page to screen, Superman is one of the handful to have been reimagined the most across television and film over the last couple of decades. The next incarnation of the Man of Steel will be in 2025 when David Corenswet suits up in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, which will be the proper start of the new DC Universe.

While several characters have already been cast for Superman: Legacy, filming isn't starting until 2024, meaning it will be quite some time until the world gets to see what Corenswet looks like in the costume and what Gunn is doing with the DC icon. To honor the late Christopher Reeve, who passed away 19 years ago, Frederick Nielsen shared new artwork as a tribute to every past, present, and future Superman, with Corenswet and Reeve featured together with several live-action versions of the character.

The artwork also features Kirk Alyn (Superman), George Reeves (Adventures of Superman), Tom Welling (Smallville), Tyler Hoechlin (Superman & Lois), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, Crisis on Infinite Earths), Henry Cavill (DCEU), Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), Gerald Christopher (Superboy), as well as Nicolas Cage (Superman Lives, The Flash). In addition to the Superman live-action celebration, the poster also includes numerous animated versions, including Jack Quaid (My Adventures with Superman), Tim Daly (Superman: The Animated Series), and many more. While he did go on to star in the Shazam! films, D.J. Cotrona's Superman from the canceled Justice League: Mortal movie can also be seen.

Will There Ever Be a Spider-Verse-Style Movie For Superman?

Live-Action Superman Shows

While several Superman actors have sadly passed away, there are still a number of stars around to this day, with only a handful of them having worked together, including Welling, Routh, and Hoechlin in Crisis on Infinite Earths. Even though Gunn's DC Universe will be focusing on establishing this new continuity, it still begs the question if Warner Bros. and DC Studios may at some point try to capitalize on their remaining Superman stars by taking a page out of the Spider-Verse's book. The Spider-Verse movies, and even Spider-Man: No Way Home, have proven that the world is invested in seeing several generations of their favorite characters come together when it is handled right.

Even Welling has been vocal about wanting to see a Superman multiverse film happen, as he mentioned on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum in 2021, where he stated that “you could have five different guys playing Superman in the same movie.” That alone is already showcasing what a massive potential Warner Bros. could have if they went down that route, especially with someone as big as Superman. Once the new DC Universe continuity gets rolling for a couple of years, it wouldn't be a bad idea for DC Studios to revisit the multiverse element and do it the right way, unlike The Flash movie, which struggled to really celebrate any era.

If several Superman actors are up for it, it would also be incredible to see what multiple versions of Lois Lane meeting each other would look like, especially with the idea of a group of Lois Lanes having been recently explored in My Adventures with Superman and found promising. The longer Warner Bros. waits, the slimmer the chances will be that they can bring the remaining Superman performers together, with each passing year making it less clear if there will ever be a time when a league of Superman gets to come together in live-action outside of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
