Loki season 2, episode 2, "Breaking Brad," raises the stakes for Loki, Mobius, and the TVA as the scope of threats to the MCU multiverse expands even more. Loki season 2's premiere episode established a bold new story, introducing a brand-new problem to the TVA. In the wake of He Who Remains' death, the multiverse is expanding at an unprecedented rate, and the Temporal Loom's imminent meltdown threatens to destroy all of reality. Furthermore, Sylvie is still hiding somewhere in the multiverse, her location known to viewers but not to Loki or the TVA.

While the Temporal Loom is given a bit of attention in Loki season 2, episode 2, the story also takes steps to make everything a bit more personal and character-driven. While the multiverse is still at stake - perhaps even more than last week - the show is made better by zooming in on the character conflicts and the splitting loyalties within the TVA. Here's every major reveal and the best moments from Loki season 2, episode 2, "Breaking Brad."

10 X-5 Defected From The TVA While Hunting For Sylvie

Brad Wolfe aka X-5 in Loki season 2

The X-5 seen in Loki season 2, episode 1, was a cold and blunt hunter at odds with Loki and Mobius, and his re-introduction at the beginning of "Breaking Brad" shows a completely different side to the character. While on the hunt for Sylvie, Hunter X-5's TemPad pinged, then went dark. When Loki and Mobius find him - in 1977 London - he's an outgoing and charming movie star named Brad Wolfe. It's initially unclear if this is the X-5 who worked for the TVA or a variant, but the truth is quickly brought to light.

At some point on his hunt for Sylvie, X-5/Brad Wolfe defected from the TVA to live his original life in the Sacred Timeline before being plucked away by the TVA. He's enjoying life as a wildly popular movie star and immediately runs from Loki and Mobius when they appear at what appears to be the premiere of his new movie, Zaniac. It's unclear if his re-joining the timeline causes a new branch or if reality bends around the change as it did when Loki time jumped in the season premiere.

9 Loki Shows Off How His Magic Has Grown

Loki is, of course, the God of Mischief and a skilled magician, but his magical affinity wasn't showcased in the Loki season 2 premiere. However, Loki is back at it as he and Mobius chase down Brad Wolfe. His classic green blasts make an appearance, but so do two other Loki powers that show his skills have grown. First, he employs his famous illusions, which are as convincing as always. Then, he's able to animate his illusion's shadows to interact with the physical world, holding Brad in place against a wall.

8 X-5 Has An Altered Tempad That Does… Something

OB with an altered TemPad in Loki

While being chased by Loki, Brad uses his TemPad to teleport out of a dead end and re-appear somewhere else. When he's eventually taken back to the TVA, Loki and Mobius notice that the device has been modified. Brad claims the alterations allow him to block TVA tracking, but that doesn't appear to be its true purpose.

Loki and Mobius first take the TemPad to OB, who is too busy to look into it. The pair try to figure it out for themselves with the help of the TVA guidebook, but as they struggle to make progress, Casey steps in and offers to help. While he knows the alterations don't block tracking, he hasn't yet figured out what the special TemPad does.

7 Renslayer Is On The Run With Miss Minutes

Ravonna Renslayer uses a time door

At the end of Loki season 1, Ravonna Renslayer exited the TVA to "find free will." What that means, exactly, has yet to be revealed, but she's still on the run, and the TVA is looking for her. While Renslayer has been able to delete her TemPad data, Casey pieces together that her last received message was from Miss Minutes. It appears that the "rogue AI" is aiding Renslayer in whatever it is she's trying to do.

6 Loki & Mobius Interrogate Brad And Finds Out Where Sylvie Is

Loki interrogating Brad in Loki

In a TVA cell, Mobius and Loki interrogate Brad to find out where Sylvie is - which they believe he knows. He initially puts up a tough front and, interestingly, uses Loki's perspective from season 1 against him. Brad argues that Loki was right and that the workers of the TVA deserve to know who they really are and live the lives they were meant to live. Eventually, for the sake of the multiverse, Loki plays into his villainous reputation and threatens to kill Brad if he doesn't explain where Sylvie is. He eventually does.

5 Loki And Sylvie’s Reunion Doesn’t Go Well

Loki and Sylvie at McDonald's in Loki season 2

Brad leads Loki and Mobius to where the Loki season 2 premiere last showed her - in Broxton, Oklahoma, where she's taken a job at McDonalds. The reunion is understandably tense; the last time the two were together, Sylvie felt betrayed by Loki's thoughts on the He Who Remain's plan, kicked Loki through a Time Door, and killed the Kang Variant. She wants nothing but to be left alone, and it takes a big reveal from Brad to get her to temporarily return to the TVA.

4 O.B. Finds A New Problem With The Temporal Loom

OB in Loki season 2

The Temporal Loom's impending implosion was the focus of Loki season 2, episode 1. While it's not as central in the second episode, O.B. does make a discovery with potentially catastrophic consequences. The blast doors have been closed, and he needs them open to stabilize the Temporal Loom. However, they can only be opened by the man who designed the area - He Who Remains. Given that he's dead, O.B. is convinced that "We're all going to die!" Perhaps this will prompt Loki and Mobius to find Kang variant Victor Timely, who has yet to appear on-screen.

3 General Dox’s Rogue Plan Is Revealed

A TVA agent with bombs in Loki season 2

Hunter X-5, aka Brad Wolfe, eventually lets Loki, Mobius, and Sylvie in on what he knows. Despite the TVA taking the official stance that all timeline pruning will be halted in the wake of the revelations pertaining to the organization's history and purpose, not everyone is content to follow orders. General Dox has gathered a large team of loyal TVA Hunters to seek out new timeline branches and bomb them out of existence. Though Loki and company interrupt the act, they aren't able to stop it before 30% of all timelines are destroyed, killing billions. Sylvie, disgusted at the destruction, immediately leaves the TVA to places unknown.

2 The TVA Gets A Lead On Renslayer

Renslayer's tempat registers at the TVA in Loki Season 2

At the end of Loki season 2, episode 1, Casey finally gets a ping on Renslayer's TempPad. However, little information is given about where she is, and it seems as though the next episode will follow up on the Judge's whereabouts since Loki season 1. With the reveal from the last episode that she has a long history with He Who Remains, she may very well be up to no good, but it's also possible her memory has been wiped like the rest of the TVA since the pair's time together.

What we do know is that Renslayer is with Miss Minutes, and the Loki season 2 trailers already offered major hints at where they both are. Watching them back, it's clear the former TVA Analyst and her cartoon clock ally are in Earth's past, and will at some point converge with Victor Timely at Chicago's Worlds Fair, where the trailers made clear both parties end up. Quite why they're on the trail of the Kang variant remains to be seen for now.

1 Sylvie Returns "Home"... But What's In Her Hand?

Sylvie in Loki Season 2 With He Who Remains Talisman

The final scene of Loki season 2 episode 2 sees Loki back at McDonalds in 1982 Broxton, Oklahoma, sitting on the hood of her car in her uniform. She's joined by her manager, Jack, who asks her if she'll be at work tomorrow (suggesting he has some expectation of her not appearing from other times?), and then asks if his mom is picking her up. As the kids say, she is mother. Most important in the scene, however, is what Sylvie is holding: she has He Who Remains' TempPad, which she took from him in Loki's season 1 finale after killing him. That TempPad is something of a cheat code, and could grant her with huge power to travel and impact the multiverse, and also presumably to control the TVA should she so choose. But will she? This, and many more questions, will hopefully be answered when Loki season 2, episode 3 airs next week.
