Summary

  • Saw X director Kevin Greutert suggests that Saw 11 may not be in the cards, as this latest installment was intended to be a final farewell to the Jigsaw killer.
  • Greutert acknowledges the potential for new directions in the franchise, but sees no obvious path forward after Saw X.
  • Despite the uncertainty, Greutert praises actor Jorge Briseño and expresses interest in collaborating with him again, recognizing his talent and bright future in the industry.

Saw X director Kevin Greutert has offered up a doubtful update regarding the potential of Saw 11 in the future. The latest film in the franchise follows John Kramer between the events of Saw and Saw II, trying to get a miracle cure for his cancer in Mexico. However, when he discovers the procedure is a scam, he traps the scammers in a variety of Jigsaw traps, testing them with some gory results.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Greutert provided a mixed response regarding the future of the franchise after Saw X's twist ending. He explained that, while there was potential for a new film, this latest installment was meant to be a final bow for the Jigsaw killer. He also addressed what it was like working with actor Jorge Briseño after being asked if Carlos could factor into the franchise's future. Check out what Greutert had to say below:

Well, we’ll just have to see what the future of Saw is. There are so many directions we could go, but for me, there’s no obvious one coming out of this film. I really wanted it to feel like a kind of final send-off for the Jigsaw character, but never say never. As far as that actor [Jorge Briseño], he’s such an amazing little gentleman. I think he has a huge career ahead of him, and I would love to work with him again.

What Could Saw 11 Be About (If It Happens)?

Tobin Bell as John Kramer with Eye Trap in Saw X

Greutet’s statement illustrates how Saw X was intended to be the final film to feature Jigsaw in a primary role, perhaps ending the franchise with him as well. However, the series is no stranger to showcasing an ending to its story, only to continue the tale with new events unfolding. This happened when John died in Saw III and in Saw 3D, which was billed as the final film in the series.

While there's no way of knowing what a potential Saw 11 would look like, the finality Saw X brings to John's story indicates the Jigsaw killer would not return. Perhaps Briseño's Carlos could become a new focal point for the series, with a new actor playing an aged-up version of the character in modern times. A possible new story could follow Carlos in adulthood, showing how his run-in with Jigsaw in his childhood impacted him.

The series could also continue exploring different points in the timeline similar to Saw X. This opens up the number of potential stories a future film could tell, including one about Amanda's apprenticeship under John's tutelage. While it seems the latest film will be the end for the Jigsaw killer, there are still plenty of possibilities for the series to continue.
