In many ways, Bosch's hard-boiled detective feels like a relic of a bygone TV era, yet the show never fails to make the character less than compelling. Titus Welliver plays Harry Bosch, a Los Angeles police detective who works his cases with total commitment but sometimes plays by his own rules. The premise might sound derivative, but Bosch exhibits a style and storytelling skill that elevates it above lesser examples of the genre.
Sneaky Pete (2015-2019)
Number Of Seasons: 3 | Cast: Giovanni Ribisi (Marius Jospiovic), Margot Martindale (Audrey), Marin Ireland (Julia)
Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston is one of the creators of Sneaky Pete, a crime drama about a troubled man who takes over the identity of his prison cellmate to escape from his violent past. One of the hidden gems available on Amazon Prime Video, all three seasons were met with acclaim.

Swarm (2023)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Dominique Fishback (Dre Greene), Chloe Bailey (Marissa Jackson)
Dominique Fishback has made a career for herself playing likable underdogs in works like The Deuce and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, but in Swarm she takes a bloody left turn as fangirl turned serial killer Andrea "Dre" Greene. The object of Dre's obsession is popstar Ni'Jah, an obvious stand-in for Beyoncé — Beyoncé's fans are known as the "Beyhive" while those in the miniseries are called the "Swarm". Swarm is a biting, or stinging, satire of fame-obsessed culture, and it's impossible to look away from Fishback, even if all viewers want to do is cover their eyes, terrified of what Dre will do next.
Gaslit (2022)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Julia Roberts (Martha Mitchell), Sean Penn (John N. Mitchelle), Dan Stevens (John Dean), Betty Gilpin (Mo Dean), Shea Whigham (G. Gordon Liddy), Darby Camp (Marty Mitchell)
Gaslit is based on true events and tells the shocking story of Martha Mitchell, the famous Watergate whistleblower. Though Gaslit follows several characters at the periphery of the scandal, it is Julia Roberts leading the cast as Mitchell who gets the most screentime and delivers the most electric performance. As prestige TV becomes more prevalent, miniseries are the perfect option for viewers looking for a brief binge-watch, as they often attract A-list Oscar-winning actors like Roberts and Sean Penn, who plays Mitchell's husband. Not only is Gaslit a showcase for incredible actors, but it also shines a light on Martha Mitchell, who played such a pivotal role in 20th-century American history.
Harlan Coben's Shelter (2023-)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Jaden Michael (Mickey Bolitar), Constance Zimmer (Shira Bolitar), Adrian Greensmith (Arthur Spindell), Aby Corrigan (Emma Winslow)
A twisted YA thriller that only becomes more elaborate as the series unfurls, Harlan Coben's Shelter is a worthy adaptation of the celebrated author's best-selling series. Following a group of friends who try to uncover the mystery behind the school peer's disappearance, the show soon makes it clear that there's more than one mystery at stake. Intricately layering and connecting storylines while maintaining a tone not dissimilar to Andrés Muschietti's IT, Harlan Coben's Shelter is a gripping addition to the best thriller series on Amazon Prime Video.
The Devil's Hour (2022-)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Peter Capaldi (Gideon), Jessica Raine (Lucy), Phil Dunster (Mike Stevens)
On the surface, The Devil's Hour could easily be said to resemble The Silence of the Lambs, or other Hannibal Lecter stories. However, while the familiar cat-and-mouse tropes of criminal and crime-solver are on full display, the show goes above and beyond to add something new to the equation. Incorporating supernatural and horror elements, The Devil's Hour follows an insomniac social worker (Raine), forced to turn to an incarcerated felon to seek answers, all set against the backdrop of a string of serial murders. Terrifying and relentlessly gripping, The Devil's Hour is one of the scariest thrillers on Amazon Prime Video.
The Consultant (2023)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Christoph Waltz (Regus Patoff), Brittany O'Grady (Elaine), Nat Wolff (Craig), Aimee Carrero (Patti)
A darkly comic satire on corporate culture and the office environment, The Consultant toes the line between dark comedy and twisted thriller. In the aftermath of a murder, mysterious consultant Regus Patoff arrives at CompWare, a mobile game company, ostensibly to help steady the ship. However, it soon becomes clear that Patoff is more than he seems, becoming a near-demonic presence behind the scenes. Sharply scripted, and boasting a deliciously evil performance from Christoph Waltz, The Consultant is a worthy adaptation of the original Bentley Little novel that inspired the series.
Dark Winds (2022-present)
Number Of Seasons: 2 | Cast: Zahn McClarnon (Joe Leaphorn), Kiowa Gordon (Jim Chee), Jessica Matten (Bernadette Manuelito)
Based on the novel Listening Woman by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds is a gripping crime thriller from start to finish. The show follows Leaphorn and Chee, two police officers from the Navajo Nation investigating a murder that leads them to question their beliefs. With strong performances and a dark tone, Dark Winds is nail-bitingly tense from the outset and a worthy addition to Amazon Prime Video's impressive slate of crime shows.
Mr. Robot (2015-2019)
Available Seasons: 4 | Cast: Rami Malek (Elliot Alderson), Christian Slater (Mr. Robot), Carly Chaikin (Darlene Alderson)
Mr. Robot shows a chaotic underworld where technology can control everything, except the mind. Amidst this backdrop, protagonist Elliot struggles to reconcile what's real and what's just in his head. The show is famous for its razor-sharp storytelling, spinning a narrative where no one can be trusted and everyone is under surveillance. Rami Malek's breakthrough performance is also mesmerizing in this paranoid, ground-breaking series.
The Fall Guy (1981-1986)
Available Seasons: 2 | Cast: Lee Majors (Colt Seavers), Douglas Barr (Howie Munson), Heather Thomas (Jody Banks)
With an upcoming, Ryan Gosling-led cinematic reboot on the way, the original The Fall Guy series is well worth revisiting. Lee Majors plays Colt Seavers, a veteran Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a bounty hunter when there are no movie jobs to work on. The show is a surprisingly wild action story for the small screen with some truly impressive stunt sequences and a tone that never takes itself too seriously.

Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Richard Madden (Mason Kane), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Nadia Sinh), Stanley Tucci (Bernard Orlick)

Citadel has a blockbuster movie feel with huge sequences and epic scope that shows there are no limits on television shows in this era.
The Night Manager (2016)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Tom Hiddleston (Jonathan Pine), Hugh Laurie (Richard Roper), Elizabeth Debicki (Jed Marshall)
Adapting a novel by spy thriller legend John le Carre, The Night Manager is an intense and exhilarating miniseries. Tom Hiddleston stars as the titular night manager at a hotel in Cairo who accepts a mission to infiltrate the inner circle of a dangerous arms dealer (Hugh Laurie). The taut narrative proves a great showcase for Hiddleston, though it's Laurie who steals the show with a rare villainous turn.
The Man In The High Castle (2015-2019)
Available Seasons: 4 | Cast: Alexa Davalos (Juliana Crain), Luke Kleintank (Joe Blake), Rufus Sewell (John Smith)

The spy thriller mixed with historical fiction makes for a hugely entertaining ride with intrigue, action, and plenty of twists throughout.
Your Honor (2020-2023)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Bryan Cranston (Michael Desiato), Hope Davis (Gina Baxter), Michael Stuhlbarg (Jimmy Baxter)
Seeing Bryan Cranston return to television as a man who goes to extreme lengths to protect his family might seem like a retread of Breaking Bad, but Your Honor sets itself apart with a very different story and tone. Cranston plays a respected judge whose convictions are tested when his son is involved in a hit-and-run with some dangerous people. While Walter White became a villain who was impossible to root for, Cranston's Michael is a more complicated character who remains sympathetic throughout.
The Terminal List (2022-present)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Chris Pratt (James Reece), Taylor Kitsch (Ben Edwards), Constance Wu (Katie Buranek)
After headlining major franchises like Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt's move to television is no less ambitious than his other projects. Back home, he finds himself drawn into a conspiracy and going on a relentless path of revenge. The show was a big hit in the summer of 2022 and looks to be launching a new television franchise with a new season of The Terminal List and a spin-off show in the works.
Reacher (2022-present)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Alan Ritchson (Jack Reacher), Malcolm Goodwin (Oscar Finlay), Willa Fitzgerald (Roscoe Conklin)
Though Tom Cruise brought Jack Reacher to the big screen, many fans of the books by Lee Child prefer the more book-accurate take on the character in Reacher. Alan Ritchson plays the titular hobo, a former military police officer who gets wrapped up in a conspiracy in a small town. The action thriller was a big hit for the service thanks to its seemingly unstoppable and charismatic hero, establishing itself as one of the best TV shows on Amazon Prime Video.

Gen V (2023-Present)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Jaz Sinclair (Marie Moreau), Chance Perdomo (Andre Anderson), Lizzie Broadway (Emma Meyer), Maddie Phillips (Cate Dunlap), London Thor and Derek Luh (Jordan Li), Asa Germann (Sam Riordan), Shelley Conn (Indira Shetty)
Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's The Boys comic book story arc "We Gotta Go Now", Gen V is the third show in The Boys TV franchise. It follows the next generation of young supes who train at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting where they undergo battle royal challenges in order to win the best crimefighting contracts in the US. While the main characters of Gen V are teenagers, do not expect the violence, gore, and explicit content of The Boys to be toned down here. Gen V is just as brutal as its predecessor, and while it doesn't quite match The Boys' high quality, it's still a bloody good time.
The Outer Limits (1995-2002)
Available Seasons: 7 | Cast: Various
A revival of the original 1960s sci-fi series, The Outer Limits is a classic of '90s cult TV. Unlike other similar anthology series that are entirely their own stories, The Outer Limits would feature several continuous story arcs that were tied together in the season finales. Though it's often compared to The Twilight Zone, that series leans more into the fantasy whereas The Outer Limits focuses more on sci-fi, and science and technology's effects on society. The Outer Limits is a prototype for shows like Black Mirror but with plenty of '90s flare.
Stargate SG-1 (1997-2007)
Available Seasons: 10 | Cast: Richard Dean Anderson (Jack O'Neill), Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson), Amanda Tapping (Samantha Carter)
One of the most beloved sci-fi series ever made, Stargate SG-1 created a legacy that has lasted more than 15 years after the show's finale. Following in the footsteps of the 1994 Stargate movie, SG-1 revolved around the elite titular taskforce as they began to slowly unravel the mysteries of the Stargate device. Their research led them into contact with a number of alien races from across the universe, as well as uncovering many major threats to humanity. A critical and commercial hit for most of its run Stargate SG-1 is often hailed as the crown jewel in the Stargate franchise and remains popular to this day.
Outer Range (2022-present)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Josh Brolin (Royal Abbott), Imogen Poots (Autumn), Lili Taylor (Cecilia Abbott)
Sci-fi Westerns can be a niche subgenre that struggles to strike the right balance between its two influences, but Outer Range manages to execute the impossible. With an incisive lead performance by Josh Brolin, the show initially establishes a down-to-Earth neo-Western storyline similar to Yellowstone, but a huge paranormal twist forces characters out of their uneventful countryside routine. Surprising and inventive at every turn, Outer Range ranks among the best sci-fi TV shows on Amazon Prime Video.
Invincible (2021-present)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Steve Yeun (Mark Grayson/Invincible), JK Simmons (Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man), Sandra Oh (Debbie Grayson)
An animated superhero series that doesn't pull its punches, Invincible is as gnarly and blood-soaked as any live-action alternative. The story revolves around a young hero who tries to follow in the steps of his father, the world's most powerful superhero, unaware that he's in fact a heartless mass murderer. Despite the changes Invincible season 1 makes from the comics, few stories in the genre tackle the possibility of mass destruction that every superhero brings along with them this well. The result is an exceptional animated Amazon Prime Video show with unforgettable combat scenes that frequently push boundaries of violence and taste.
The Peripheral (2022-present)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Chloë Grace Moretz (Flyn Fisher), Gary Carr (Wilf Netherton), Jack Reynor (Burton Fisher)

The show sees Moretz play a young woman who accesses an alternate reality and is troubled by chilling visions of her future. The show is perfect to binge-watch since every episode offers a new piece of a complex puzzle, exploring the endless possibilities afforded by a parallel world.

The Expanse (2015-2022)
Available Seasons: 6 | Cast: Steven Strait (James Holden), Dominique Tipper (Naomi Nagata), Wes Chatham (Amos Burton)
The Expanse is a sci-fi show set hundreds of years in the future, introducing a universe-scale problem after humanity conquers most of the solar system. Despite The Expanse's abrupt ending in season 6, the show successfully addresses political rivalries that seem farfetched and fantastical, while simultaneously showcasing how humanity makes the same mistakes over and over again. It's this ability to reveal the truth of the human experience in a setting far removed from reality that makes The Expanse – and the sci-fi genre as a whole – so powerful.
The Boys (2019-present)
Available Seasons: 3 | Cast: Karl Urban (Billy Butcher), Jack Quaid (Hughie Campbell), Anthony Starr (Homelander)
A biting satire on the modern obsession with superheroes, The Boys is a blisteringly brutal indictment of modern consumerism. Set in a world in which heroes not only exist but are frequently corrupt and actively evil, The Boys subverts hopeful genre properties such as the MCU. Following a group of vigilantes who intend to reveal the truth about superheroes that recklessly abuse their power, The Boys is one of the most popular shows on Amazon Prime Video and is a refreshing antidote to omnipresent comic book blockbusters.

Good Omens (2019-)
Available Seasons: 2 | Cast: Michael Sheen (Aziraphale), David Tennant (Crowley)
Perfectly augmented by Michael Sheen and David Tennant's inimitable onscreen chemistry, Good Omens is a hugely successful adaptation of the Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett novel of the same name. Following an angel and a demon as they enjoy a relatively peaceful existence on Earth, the show slyly rewrites biblical history, introducing a rich new mythology to established stories. The first season sees the pair attempt to thwart the apocalypse in order to preserve their comfortable lives, while season 2 continues the story post-COVID-19 lockdown. Hugely entertaining and extremely watchable, Good Omens is a triumph for Amazon Prime Video's original programming.
The Legend Of Vox Machina (2022-)
Available Seasons: 2 | Cast: Laura Bailey (Vex'ahlia "Vex" Vessar), Taliesin Jaffe (Percival "Percy" Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III), Ashley Johnson (Pike Trickfoot)
Based on the first campaign of the Dungeons and Dragons web series Critical Role, The Legend of Vox Machina is further proof that D&D can thrive on the small screen. Adapting a number of celebrated stories from Dungeons and Dragons canon, including the Briarwood and Chroma Conclave arcs, Vox Machina features several actors reprising their roles from the original Critical Role series. Praised for its emotive storytelling and effective translation of the source material, the show has quickly established itself as one of the best fantasy series on Amazon Prime Video.

Available Seasons: 6 | Cast: David Giuntoli (Detective Nicholas "Nick" Burkhardt), Russell Hornsby (Detective Hank Griffin), Claire Coffee (Adalind Schade)
A blend of fantasy, police procedural, and horror, Grimm is an enjoyable genre mash-up in the vein of hits such as Supernatural. The series centers on Detective Nick Burkhardt, a Portland Police officer who learns that he is in fact a direct descendant of a long line of monster-hunting Grimms. This revelation sets him on a journey to unearthing a whole hidden world of magic and mystery, crossing paths with some dangerous creatures along the way. Boasting a complex and well-considered mythology, Grimm is an underrated fantasy action show that retains a devoted following after its conclusion.
The Wheel Of Time (2021-present)
Available Seasons: 2 | Cast: Rosamund Pike (Moiraine Damodred), Daniel Henney (al'Lan Mandragoran), Madeleine Madden (Egwene al'Vere)
An ambitious blend of world-building and spectacle, The Wheel of Time is a largely successful attempt to wrestle with Robert Jordan's sprawling and unwieldy source material. Following the journey of the "chosen one," whose power can turn the whole kingdom against him and his friends, Amazon Prime Video's The Wheel of Time explores an inventive magic system and a fantastical setting. Given its intricate plot, the series is remarkably accessible and certainly counts as one of Amazon Prime Video's best fantasy TV shows.
The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power (2022-present)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Morfydd Clark (Galadriel), Robert Aramayo (Elrond), Charlie Vickers (Sauron)
The success of the Lord of the Rings books and movie trilogy was enough to ensure that The Rings of Power found an audience, but few believed Amazon's billion-dollar production could re-imagine J. R. R. Tolkien's world in such an evocative way. Middle-earth looks visually stunning, and the show takes its time to introduce different cultures, creatures, and of course, enemies, that put at stake the balance between good and evil. The Rings of Power takes place thousands of years before the events of Lord of the Rings, making it a great precursor to the original films.
American Gods (2017-2021)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Ian McShane (Mr. Wednesday), Emily Browning (Laura Moon), Ricky Whittle (Shadow Moon)
Neil Gaiman is behind many excellent fantasy adaptations, including Coraline, Good Omens, The Sandman, and the Starz Original American Gods continues that trend. Starring Ian McShane and Ricky Whittle, American Gods is another ambitious project based on the author's works, creating a mythology of its own by introducing actual gods who must adapt to the modern world through the eyes of Shadow, an ex-convict. A blend of centuries-old legend and modern storytelling, the series is a riveting and inventive drama.
Teen Wolf (2011-2017)
Available Seasons: 6 | Cast: Tyler Posey (Scott McCall), Dylan O'Brien (Stiles Stilinski), Holland Roden (Lydia Martin)
Teen Wolf is one of the most successful supernatural teen shows of its generation, introducing a high school scenario haunted by a werewolf curse. The quirky visual effects of the first seasons might scare away some viewers, but Teen Wolf's trump card is successfully alternating between a compelling high school drama and looming horror elements that threaten the lives of the teenage characters. The 2023 feature-length follow-up just demonstrates further how popular the series is.
Best Horror TV Shows On Amazon Prime Video
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (2023-Present)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), Clémence Poésy (Isabelle Carriere), Louis Puech Scigliuzzi (Laurent), Laïka Blanc-Francard (Sylvie), Anne Charrier (Genet), Romain Levi (Stéphane Codron), Adam Nagaitis (Quinn)
The Walking Dead franchise isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and with great spinoffs like The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, that's a good thing. The series sees the titular fan-favorite character wash ashore in France without a clue as to how he got there. From there, Daryl tries to make his way back home to America, and his journey is unsurprisingly fraught with danger. While Reedus is as reliably fantastic as ever, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon breathes new life into the franchise by setting it in an entirely new location.
The Walking Dead: Dead City (2023-Present)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan), Lauran Cohen (Maggie), Logan Kim (Hershel Rhee)
Following one of the most successful horror series of all time was never going to be easy, yet The Walking Dead: Dead City has definitively proven that there's life in the wider franchise yet. Following beloved original series stalwarts Magie and Negan, Dead City abandons The Waking Dead's typically rural scope. Instead, the series takes place in a decrepit and crumbling Manhattan, where the undead aren't the only dangers. A hit with both fans and critics, Dead City is a worthy continuation of the Walking Dead story.
In The Flesh (2013-2014)
Available Seasons: 2 | Cast: Luke Newberry (Kieran Walker), Harriet Cains (Jemima Walker), Emily Bevan (Amy Dyer)
Originally a celebrated BBC series, In The Flesh takes a novel approach to the zombie apocalypse subgenre. Unlike many other projects, the show focuses not on the emergence of the undead, but on the outbreak's aftermath. In The Flesh imagines a world where zombies can be successfully rehabilitated, yet face prejudice from the people who survived the initial onslaught. This angle adds a whole new depth to the series' subtle social commentary, making In The Flesh one of the most interesting horror shows on Amazon Prime Video.
American Horror Story (2011-present)
Available Seasons: 10 | Cast: Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates (Various)
One of the most influential shows of the past 15 years, American Horror Story is a must-watch for every horror fan. The show follows an anthological style, and each season focuses on a different threat and introduces a new set of characters. New roles are often filled by the same group of actors from season to season, as the series explores a wide range of horror tropes such as haunted houses, aliens, and freak shows. Catapulting stars Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters to international fame, the show also established Ryan Murphy as the doyen of pop television.
Interview With The Vampire (2022-present)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Jacob Anderson (Louis de Pointe du Lac), Sam Reid (Lestat de Lioncourt), Eric Bogosian (Daniel Molloy)
Anne Rice's book Interview with the Vampire has now inspired two great adaptations: the 1994 movie starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, and the subsequent Amazon Prime Video horror TV show. Once again, the gothic horror series follows Louis de Pointe du Lac as he recounts the story of his life as a noble vampire and the burden of immortality. Both adaptations capture the sensual nature of Rice's storytelling, yet the TV show arguably feels less absurd than the original. While there is plenty of betrayal and intrigue in the narrative, what prevails in abundance is desire.
Mayfair Witches (2023-Present)
Available Seasons: 1 | Cast: Alexandra Daddario (Rowan Fielding), Tongayi Chirisa (Ciprien Grieve), Jack Huston (Lasher), Harry Hamlin (Cortland Mayfair)
The second AMC show in Anne Rice's Immortal Universe series goes from vampires to witches. Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario) is a neurosurgeon who grew up adopted, only to learn that she comes from a long line of powerful witches who are haunted by an evil spirit. Mayfair Witches may not be as good as Interview with the Vampire, its Immortal Universe predecessor, but Rice fans in particular will enjoy the adaptation. And if taken as an escapist horror series, between the lush New Orleans setting and Daddario's commanding lead performances, there's great fun to be had with Mayfair Witches.
Yellowjackets (2021-Present)
Available Seasons: 2 | Cast: Christina Ricci (Misty), Juliette Lewis (Natalie), Melanie Lynskey (Shauna)
Perhaps one of the most surprising and exhilarating TV series in recent memory, Yellowjackets blends the tropes of a survival thriller with terrifying fantastical horror. The split narrative follows a high school soccer team across two time periods, one in which their plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness, and another set years later exploring the trauma of the survivors. The show's blend of horror and psychological drama makes it unique and more than justifies its status as one of the best TV shows on Amazon Prime Video.
