October 2023 kicks off the beginning of a big holiday shopping season filled with fun new video games, including many heavily anticipated releases such as Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Assassin's Creed Mirage. As the weather is beginning to turn colder, these can be perfect games to curl up with while enjoying combat or exploration in the virtual worlds they offer. The full list of every game releasing in October gives a good spread of genres across all platforms to offer something for everyone this autumn.
This year has been full of incredible games that are in the running for 2023's Game of the Year in just a couple more months, and the games for October are anticipated to make that decision more difficult. This month is not just throwing around names like the above-mentioned Spider-Man, Mario, and Assassin's Creed. Other big games like Cities: Skylines 2, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, and Forza Motorsport, as well as many more, are all making their debuts over the upcoming weeks, meaning that it is shaping up to be yet another massive month for video game releases.
October's New Releases Include Big Names
Likely the most highly anticipated game that is coming up this month is none other than Marvel's Spider-Man 2 which is set to launch on the PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023. It is the sequel to 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man, which was met with high acclaim, and any news of its sequel has been closely watched ever since. It will be released on the same day as Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which was just recently announced at the June 2023 Nintendo Direct and will be the first 2D side-scrolling Mario game in over a decade. As is the case with all Super Mario Bros. games, it will be exclusively available on Nintendo.
The Assassin's Creed series is also getting another entry, with the release of Assassin's Creed Mirage on October 5. This game brings the series back to its roots with a return to the formula of the game that proved successful in the franchise's beginnings. Speaking of returning to its roots, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 will also be launching this month. This new collection offers an accessible way for a new generation to experience the start of the series, although, obviously, not just new players will enjoy seeing Solid Snake on modern platforms.
Every Video Game Releasing In October 2023
The genres covered this October include a bit of everything with dungeon crawlers like Silent Hope, cozy games like Mineko's Night Market, and even the survival horror of Alan Wake 2 (which could make a good Halloween experience).

October 2023's video game release list truly offers something for all, with many Indie games alongside AAA titles, and it feels like there are just too many amazing offerings to be able to give them all the time they deserve. Of course, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Assassin's Creed Mirage, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder will likely command the most attention, but hopefully, that won't diminish what other good games like Silent Hope and Cities: Skylines 2 have to offer.
