Summary

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will feature over 65 suits, including both fan favorites and original designs, inspired by various forms of media.
  • Players can control Peter Parker and Miles Morales in the game, with over 200 ways to customize their suits using the new Suit Styles feature.
  • Pre-ordering the game's Digital Deluxe Edition will unlock additional suits, each with its own unique design and inspiration, expanding the range of options for players.

Both Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales had several alternate suits for people to unlock and fight crime across New York, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be no different. The suits in the game are inspired by all forms of media, from the comics in which the superheroes originated to movies such as Into The Spider-Verse or Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, and include several original designs made specifically for each game.

Over 65 suits have been confirmed for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 — a huge increase when compared to its predecessors — which continues this trend of blending new original designs with fan favorites from films and comics. The larger amount of costumes on offer is due to the fact that players will be able to assume control of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in the upcoming title, and with the new Suit Styles feature, which unlocks alternate color shaders for some suits, this further provides over 200 ways to customize the wall-crawlers.

29 Advanced Suit (Peter)

Peter's new Advanced suit in Spider-Man 2

Peter's Advanced Suit will be returning in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The suit first appeared in Marvel's Spider-Man after Peter opted to upgrade his costume following his fight with Wilson Fisk in the game's opening moments. Since then, Peter has tweaked this suit further, adding mechanical arms that were first shown in the sequel's reveal trailer, and some of the suit's patterns have changed more in recent Marvel's Spider-Man 2 footage, such as the removal of the red and black webbing down the legs, and the choice to switch the black outline on the red sections to white.

28 Upgraded Suit (Miles)

Miles Morales' "Classic" suit from Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will also be receiving an upgrade in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Miles and his confident best friend Ganke Lee made the black and red "Classic" suit — which was an adaptation of Miles' traditional look in the comics — as part of forging his own identity as a hero and standing apart from Peter's traditional red and blue Spider-Man design. The new "Upgraded" suit has slight changes to this design, such as red paneling going down the sleeves, harder red protective material on Miles' gloves, and more angular patterning.

27 The Symbiote Suit (Peter)

Peter Parker wears the Venom suit in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

The 11-minute gameplay footage from the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase revealed that Peter Parker would be donning the iconic black Venom symbiote suit that first originated in the 1980s Secret Wars comic arc in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. It was already well known from the previous games' credit scenes and Marvel's Spider-Man 2's reveal trailer that Venom would play a major part in the upcoming sequel.

However, many speculated that the traditional origin in which Peter bonds with the symbiote first may have been eschewed — much as it was in the Venom movies — prior to this reveal, as Harry Osborn could already be seen with the symbiote in the aforementioned post-credit scenes.

The symbiote enhances Peter's spider abilities in nearly every way when bonding with him, even replacing the need for his artificial web-shooters with organic symbiotic ones and tendrils. From what's been shown in promotional footage so far, it's evident that Peter seems stronger and more agile than ever while wearing the symbiote, and this increased power should play largely into the addiction narrative Insomniac has teased in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

26 Spider-Man 3 Movie Symbiote Suit (Peter)

The Spider-Man 3 movie Black Suit in Spider-Man 2 -

The costumes Tobey Maguire wore in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy were highly requested in the first Marvel's Spider-Man game. While Insomniac included the traditional red and blue "Webbed" suit from those films via a free update after the game's launch, the studio held back on including the black symbiote suit from the Spider-Man 3 movie, clearly waiting to include this in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 alongside its version of the symbiote that Peter wears during the game.

The Spider-Man 3 symbiote suit was revealed in a moment of gameplay during PlayStation's September 2023 State of Play as part of a quick montage with some of the other suits on offer. In it, Peter can be seen incorporating gray versions of his new mechanical arms with the Spider-Man 3 design as he delivers a finishing move on an enemy.

25 Classic Suit (Peter)

Insomniac's take on Peter's classic suit will return in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The suit players started with as they took on Wilson Fisk in Marvel's Spider-Man was already a faithful adaptation of the iconic red and blue design, but through the new Suit Styles feature, variants were shown that included a more traditional red and navy design closer to Steve Ditko's color scheme for when the character first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15.

24 Superior Spider-Man (Peter)

Peter's various Superior Spider-Man suits in Spider-Man 2

The State of Play "Marvel's New York" footage showed the black and red Superior Spider-Man costume as part of its showcase of the new Suit Styles customization feature. Superior Spider-Man was an initially controversial comic run where a dying Otto Octavius was able to transfer his consciousness into Peter's body and take over the role of Spider-Man.

Considering how Peter has integrated four mechanical arms similar to Octavius' ones from the Superior Spider-Man run, and his former mentor's major role in Marvel's Spider-Man, this could hint at Doc Ock's return in the sequel, as it would make sense to unlock such a suit from doing side activities for that character.

23 Spider-Falcon (Peter)

Spider-Falcon in the Secret Wars 2015 comics and the Spider-Man 2 game

The 2015 Secret Wars comics run showed a world in which the events of Iron Man and Captain America's Civil War were far greater in scale and never ended, resulting in a far more devastating outcome. In this universe, Spider-Man was given the wings and tech of Falcon and served as Captain America's second in command, something that made him bitter as he was unable to be with Mary-Jane and their daughter. While he was only ever referred to as Spider-Man in these comics, many have dubbed this hybrid look "Spider-Falcon".

This Secret Wars suit was briefly glimpsed in the State of Play footage, and while he does seem to have the wing pack attached to his back, these wings aren't extended as he seems to use the Advanced suit's spider arms instead. It is possible as all of the suits seem to have their own unique Web-Wings design for gliding through the city that Insomniac could include the full Falcon wings for this.

22 Spider-Man 2099 (Peter)

A black & white variant of the classic "2099 Black suit" (which was more blue and red in the 2018 game as it is portrayed in most other media like Across the Spider-Verse and Shattered Dimensions) was spotted during the State of Play footage. Although Miguel O' Hara technically wore this in the Spider-Man 2099 comics, it was included as one of Peter's costumes in Marvel's Spider-Man and likely will be in the sequel.

21 Miles' 10-Year Anniversary Suit (Miles)

Miles Morales' 10th anniversary suit in Spider-Man 2

Miles can be seen wearing one of his most recent costume designs in the State of Play gameplay footage, a new suit with red lenses, and a red and black sporty attire featuring a baggier top and sneakers that have become synonymous with many of the character's redesigns since the Into The Spider-Verse movie. The new costume was designed by Chase Conley for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Miles Morales.

20 Puerto Rican Suit (Miles)

Although only briefly shown from behind during the State of Play footage, Miles will clearly have the Puerto Rican suit, which incorporated the Puerto Rican flag into Miles' design. This look was created as part of the Marvel Voices: Community comics, which were written in 2021 and 2022 to celebrate Latino and Hispanic heroes and creators from all corners of the Marvel Universe.

19 Family Business Suit (Miles)

Spider-Man 2 - Family Business suit menu

A new outfit for Miles called the Family Business suit was revealed during the State of Play footage. This outfit is based on the time his uncle, Aaron Davis, wore a version of the Iron Spider suit and led the new version of The Sinister Six in 2017's Spider-Man comic run "Legacy." Whereas the look in that comic was more of a color-swapped version of the traditional Iron Spider suit, Insomniac's version seems to incorporate elements from Peter's "Anti-Ock" suit from the first Marvel's Spider-Man game's finale, along with parts of the Purple Reign suit (the latter of which hints more at Aaron being the one behind the mask).

18 Scarlet Spider's Vegas Suit (Peter)

Ben Reilly's Scarlet Spider suit from his time in Vegas as depicted in the comics and in the Spider-Man 2 game

When demonstrating Miles' Family Business suit, Peter can be seen with his back turned away wearing an alternate suit of his own. This suit is actually one of Ben Reilly's and was the Scarlet Spider redesign he sported when he moved to Las Vegas during the 2018 Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider comics run, "Slingers Return". As Reilly didn't have his original Scarlet Spider costume anymore, he had to improvise and took this one off a cosplayer in the area. Due to fan backlash, however, this suit was short-lived as he returned to his original Scarlet Spider design later in the run.

17 T.R.A.C.K. Suit (Miles)

Insomniac's original T.R.A.C.K. suit from Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will return as one of Miles' suits in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The white, black, and red look was teased in an icon when the Suit Styles feature was showcased during the September 2023 State of Play showcase.

16 Sportswear Suit (Miles)

One of the alternate suits on display when showing Miles' Family Business suit was the Sportswear suit. This was simply Miles using one of Peter's spare masks while in training at the start of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales with a blue winter jacket, red hoodie, and shorts over his suit before getting his own full Spider-Man costume.

15 2099 Suit (Miles)

The Miles Morales 2099 suit was also included in an icon during the Suit Styles section of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's State of Play footage. Miles' 2099 design originally appeared on a variant cover for Miles Morales: Spider-Man Vol. 1 #12 and was available as an alternate suit in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

14 Life Story Spacesuit (Miles)

Miles' Life Story suit in Spider-Man 2 alongside a panel from that comic run

An icon for Miles' costume from Chip Zdarsky and Mark Bagley's 6-part Spider-Man: Life Story run was seen in one of the menus when demonstrating the Suit Styles feature. Life Story was an interesting take on the Spider-Man universe, in which Peter was bitten by a radioactive spider in 1962 (when Spider-Man was first created) and then aged in real-time over the decades, incorporating reworked versions of major events from each decade of comics such as the death of Gwen Stacy in the '70s and the introduction of Miles Morales in the 2010s.

In Miles' section of the book, he assists an older Peter in a venture to space at one point, where the two confront the Venom symbiote. Therefore, with Venom's role in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, such a choice of costume seems fitting for the game.

13 Purple Reign Suit (Miles)

Miles' various Purple Reign suits in Spider-Man 2

The State of Play footage revealed the return of the Purple Reign suit created for the Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales game. This should come as no surprise considering the amount of Prowler icons seen across Marvel's Spider-Man 2's map in the same showcase, confirming Aaron Davis' return.

The suit sees Miles don an attire more akin to his uncle's Prowler suit and was unlocked as a gift for working with him on his music by sampling sounds from across the city. The Purple Reign suit has also been confirmed to have alternate suit styles, including one that reintegrates more of Miles' traditional black and red color palette into it, rather than the Prowler's purple and green.

12 Arachknight (Peter)

Spider-Man 2's Arachknight suit alongside the comics character

Pre-ordering any version of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 unlocks Peter's Arachknight suit. The Arachknight first appeared in 2018's Infinity Wars comics as part of the creation of Warp World, a universe where Gamora folded the universe in half and sealed their souls with the Soul Gem to incapacitate its inhabitants but merged every soul with another. In this case, it resulted in Peter and Moon Knight merging.

11 Shadow-Spider (Miles)

Spider-Man 2's Shadow-Spider suit alongside the comics character

Miles' Shadow Spider suit will be available as a pre-order exclusive, and much like Peter's Arachknight suit, will have 3 color variants. The suit first appeared in 2018's Champions comics, where a Miles Morales from an alternate reality became a Medieval rogue known as the Shadow-Spider. The new suit is a great way to showcase the new cape physics Insomniac has added to the sequel, as Shadow-Spider's cloak had magical properties in the comics that allowed for quick escapes and teleportation.

10 Apunkalyptic (Peter)

Peter's Apunkalyptic suit in Spider-Man 2

It had previously been announced that Marvel's Spider-Man 2's Digital Deluxe Edition would include 10 newly designed suits (5 for Peter, 5 for Miles) made by guest artists from across comics, films, and PlayStation Studios. A new trailer that ended the State of Play showcase (and can now be found on PlayStation's YouTube page) provided a new look at these designs.

Peter's Apunkalyptic Suit was designed by Jerad Marantz and features a low-tech, punky design. The look feels like an expansion of the look seen most commonly sported by Hobie Brown's Spider-Punk with a sleeveless jacket and combat boots, but it also incorporates more apocalyptic elements like a cyborg arm.
