Insomniac Games and PlayStation announced a custom PS5 console and DualSense controller based on the highly anticipated superhero sequel, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, during the closing moments of the game's San Diego Comic-Con panel. There will be several options for players to acquire the limited edition design, as it will be available both as a console bundle or as standalone plates and controllers for those who already own a PS5.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will see Peter and Miles facing several challenges in both their personal lives with job worries and college applications and in their superheroic duties. The web-slinging duo will be battling new foes in the form of Kraven - who is bringing his "great hunt" to New York in the hopes that the superpowered beings there will offer him a worthy challenge - and Venom, with the symbiote that was used in an attempt to cure a terminally-ill Harry Osborn getting loose and corrupting Peter Parker before bonding with a new host to become the fan-favorite Spider-Man foe. They will also come face-to-face with villains from their past, with an emotionally-charged moment between Miles Morales and the man who killed his father, Martin Li, being teased.

The Spider-Man 2 PS5 Design Mirrors The Game's Themes

Spider-Man 2 PS5 reveal trailer - A white spider logo on a red background getting taken over by symbiote tendrils

The Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5's console's plating and DualSense controller feature the white spider symbol on a red backdrop with a design similar to the custom PS4 Pro that shipped alongside 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man, being a nice continuation of the previous title's branding. The difference for the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 design is that it now has the inclusion of black symbiotic tendrils that have already taken over one side of the console and are closing in on the white spider logo in the remaining red area.

Insomniac Games' Senior Art Director Jacinda Chew explained that the new Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PlayStation 5 design is representative of the player's experience with the Venom symbiote in the game, mirroring the "push and pull for dominance" between Peter and the suit as it tries to corrupt him. This was teased in the console's reveal trailer - which is now viewable on PlayStation's YouTube page - which included audio of Peter and Miles trying to remove the symbiote alongside visuals of Miles' bioelectric blasting it and keeping it at bay, potentially hinting at how the superhero duo may defeat it in-game.

What Is Included In Spider-Man 2's PS5 Bundle?

The Spider-Man 2 limited edition PS5 bundle

The main Marvel's Spider-Man 2 limited edition PS5 bundle will cost $599.99 and includes a Marvel's Spider-Man 2-themed PlayStation 5 console - with designs for both the digital-only or the disc versions available for players to choose from - and the matching red and black symbiotic DualSense controller. The bundle will also include a digital copy of the standard edition of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 alongside the in-game pre-order bonuses, which include an early unlock for the Web-Grabber gadget, three skill points to get a head start on leveling up the heroes' abilities, and two exclusive, caped suits: Peter's Arachnight suit and Miles' Shadow-Spider suit, along with 3 color variants for each.

Those who wanted the Digital Deluxe edition's content need not worry about missing out or paying for the game twice, as it had already been reported alongside the pre-order announcement that players will be able to upgrade standard copies to the Digital Deluxe version on the PlayStation Store at a later date should they wish, much as they could with the previous two Marvel's Spider-Man titles.

Pre-Existing PS5 Owners Can Customize Their Consoles With Spider-Man 2 Plates

Those who already own a PlayStation 5 don't need to worry about trading in their old device or buying another console to enjoy the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 design. The limited edition black and red Marvel's Spider-Man 2 covers are available as a standalone purchase for $64.99, with different versions for the digital-only or the disc versions of the console, enabling all PlayStation 5 owners to customize their consoles with this sleek, red and black symbiotic design should they wish.

The Spider-Man 2 DualSense Controller Is Available Separately

For those who already have their PS5 in the color they prefer, be it a fully Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, or Starlight Blue, but want to include the symbiote-themed design in their set-up somehow, the limited edition Marvel's Spider-Man 2 DualSense controller is available to purchase separately. The custom controller will be available for $79.99, which is $10 dollars more than the regular DualSense and its alternate colors, but around the same price as the Limited Edition LeBron James PS5 accessories.

Spider-Man 2 PS5 Accessories & Bundles' Pre-Order Date

The SDCC panel revealed that the new limited PlayStation 5 bundle is available for pre-order on July 28 and will release on September 1, 19 days before Marvel's Spider-Man 2's main release date. As per a PlayStation Blog post that accompanied the console reveal, players in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Portugal will be able to purchase both the special edition Marvel's Spider-Man 2 console bundle or the individual items from PlayStation Direct.

This is similar to how Sony sells its official PS5 plates - which have previously been for different colors, rather than a game-specific tie-in - and Marvel's Spider-Man 2's Collector's Edition. The post also stated that other select retailers will have limited quantities in other countries around the world that don't have access to PlayStation Direct but didn't elaborate on which ones these would be.

Insomniac and Sony have managed to create a sleek console design that is perfect for fans of Spider-Man and Venom and perfectly represents the characters' battle. Fans will likely have to act fast on July 28 if they want to purchase the Marvel's Spider-Man 2-themed PS5 or its stylized accessories, as these items are all being listed as "limited editions" and will likely sell out fast, much as the Marvel's Spider-Man PS4 Pro bundle did back in 2018.
